“ Great Sermon! ” Dr. Rugh, in his series on Daniel, points out the meaning of, "Chiliasm . . . 1. The millennium. 2. The doctrine of the personal reign of Christ on earth during the millennium." With various examples. It is made plain Daniel more clearly than any other Old Testament book, sets down the key information that puts down a lot of Old Testament prophecy together, that's foundational to understanding New Testament prophecy. para Dr. Rugh goes on to point out the uniqueness of Daniel, which only God could have given him. para Dr. Rugh gives a vivid account of events before during and after the sojourn of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego in the furnace of blazing fire. It shows that during this time, Nebuchadnezzar is still an arrogant raging unbeliever, of the true God. He had an unchanged heart. para Pity, the whole sermon given that Sunday night wasn't given, but what you get is excellent and show why Dr. Rugh is in one of the top tiers of Bible teachers. The second URL will direct you to the sermon that could easily be a precursor to this one, and I would think they should actually be linked together as parts one and two, on how the church should deal with sin. So, I would suggest that you listen to the first sermon with its URL listed here, then listen to the one that this message is a comment on. They fit very well together. para Gil just touched on the consequences of sin in the commented sermon, the article listed in the first URL really goes into depth about forgiveness but not full restoration of privileges, as Pastor Wayne Reynolds said, "There is a difference between forgiveness and trust....We are the ones that grant forgiveness - they are the ones that earn trust....Forgiveness is granted - trust is earned.... [for example,] an adulterous pastor should not be restored again to pastoring, but there are many opportunities for ministering other than pastoring...." para Now, of course this is my personal opinion, but it appears to me the two sermons and this article together makes a very complete statement on how to handle sin!
“ Having the qualifications before you. ” To have it in front of you! para Titus 1:5 I left you in Crete for this reason, that you would set in order the things that were lacking, and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you; 6 if anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, who are not accused of loose or unruly behavior. 7 For the overseer must be blameless, as God’s steward; not self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain; 8 but given to hospitality, a lover of good, sober minded, fair, holy, self-controlled; 9 holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him. para 1 Timothy 3 2 The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching; 3 not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; 4 one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence; 5 (but if a man doesn’t know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the assembly of God?)7 Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into reproach and the snare of the devil.
“ Why the literal interpretation of Scripture ” This will be a very unofficial summary of the sermon from 32.21 minutes to the end of the sermon. Pastor Rugh usually makes several points during a sermon, which would be usually sermon in themselves, but I see only two major issues and this part focuses on the literal interpretation of the Scripture. Listeners from liberal churches should have little difficulty just listening to this part, since it is only 20-minute long. para. As believers we are anchored in the Word we will die for this. Multitudes of people have died in holding to the Bible being the absolute authority and it is God's Word. para. The Bible claims to be the Word from God if this Word is not understandable then there are no standards. We need a Revelation outside ourselves. More than 2,000 times in the Old Testament there is the statement, "Thus says the Lord," We have a terrible erosion in the Evangelical Church denying the Bible is the Word of God. See Hebrews 1:1, 2 Peter 1:20-21, God is not playing hide 'n seek. The God has made Himself known to us. God is intelligent enough to communicate to us in a way we can understand. He did this verbally, just like various print columnists do, who also believe we can understand them. They assumed everyone would have the same interpretation of their writings.
“ Great Sermon! that is up to the minute ” It is easy for us as Christians to promote the right issues for the wrong reasons. We shouldn't promote the right things on a foundation of sand! Some issues that surrounded religious movies such as the "Passion of Christ," have serious issues about it. Many times we only have superficial agreements with theological liberals--and conservatives. We may agree more with the conservatives, but they have false foundations for their beliefs.
The Bible and not Vatican II is to be used to determine how we are to interpret events, The Pope and his minions represent a Godless, pagan religion, which Christians don't recognize. It's preposterous to say a literal interpretation of the Bible caused massacres of Jews [The misinterpretation of the Bible by the Romish and Orthodox Churches had a lot to do with that.] Literal interpretation has made Evangelicals the greatest supporters of Jews and Israel.
Modern society doesn't believe there's a right or wrong--and if any view is correct it comes from liberal theologians. Issues such as homosexual marriages aren't decided by majority view of the voters. Laws not based on the fear of God, or some unchanging earthly standard are nonsense. What determines Right and Wrong? The Bible does.
“ Excellent Sermon and Summary! ” An unofficial expansion to the summary, par.,

16,17 From other parts of the epistle, it appears that the false teachers among the Corinthians taught unholy doctrines. Such teaching tended to corrupt, to pollute, and destroy the building, which should be kept pure and holy for God. Those who spread loose principles, which render the church of God unholy, bring destruction upon themselves. Christ by his Spirit dwells in all true believers. Christians are holy by profession, and should be pure and clean, both in heart and conversation. He is deceived who deems himself the temple of the Holy Ghost, yet is unconcerned about personal holiness, or the peace and purity of the church." Par. Acts 2 44 All who believed were together, and had all things in common. 45 They sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to all, according as anyone had need. Par. These verses were elaborated on and it was pointed out a communistic system wasn't being established!
“ Great Sermon! ” An unofficial summary! Para. The world doesn't stop after elections and on all levels of elections it shows that God is in control. On going events show that God's judgment is building to a climax. The elections and other happenings show the inadequacy of moralism, and our duty as Christian is not to bring morality to the fallen, but Christ! If their heart is changed so will be their conduct. para Missions mean carrying the Gospel to the lost, living a moral life before the world is --not-- missional! You go into the world to make disciples, not to show them how to live, as commanded by Christ. para God is sovereign in every decision made by every individual on earth. We can't abandoned God's sovereignty for man's responsibility that most surely exists. Man is completely responsible for his decisions. (The tension between the two will not be resolved in this sermon) para. Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities no matter whatever their level, because all are established by God. God is in control of government, no matter how leaders are picked. Anyone who opposes authority is going against God. You are to be a good Roman! Even with injustices--no unkind words about gov. para. This sermon is a continuation of the previous sermon, so listen to that.
“ Great Sermon! on the effects of sin, like adultery ” Not only an excellent sermon and summary on what it says it is, but also one on the sorrows of adultery (How one night of pleasure, eventually led to the deaths of 20,000 men! The sin could not be undone!) and an evil son. While David and Absalom are complex individuals and their sins have widespread effects, but so are those of other people detailed in this section of the Bible, such a Joab. Go listen to the sermon --and of course-- read the Book!

David carried on even in trying times, He did what needed to be done.
“ Great Sermon! God demands Impartiality! ” A very unofficial summary! Para. James was the half-brother of Christ. He became a believer after Christ's death, and was a major leader in the Jerusalem church. James was worried that his fellow Jewish Christians whose behavior wasn't consistent with their beliefs. He wanted them to be doers of the Word and not just hearers of Word. Para. James didn't want Christians to copy the world's respect for the wealthy because they are wealthy and to be carried into the Church. The poor have been blessed with spirit of Christ, For the rich, it's not the material things you have in this world that is of real importance. Para.

5 Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?

People's views on people get skewed when they start looking at a person's wealth, which the church growth movement does. God does much of his work through the "nobodies" of the world. The wealthiest and poorest are both saved exactly the same way--through the grace of God.
“ Trade Center One ” http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-29888053 para. I could have left the title of "Great Sermon" on here, which it is, and you should not only read the short summary to the sermon, but listen to the sermon itself. I think it's great that a grand new building has been placed on the World Trade Center site. At the time of this comment it's the tallest building in the United States. (See the BBC story, it will be hard to avoid seeing something since the video is more important than the description of it, as far as the BBC is concerned.) But not only will this building come down sometime, hopefully to age, but man himself doesn't last on this earth forever, as pointed out in the summary to the sermon.
“ Great Sermon! about relevant issues ” This is a very --unofficial-- addition to the summary of the sermon. Gil did speak quite a bit about the misuse of the Bible to address social issues, such as immigration. Gil noted that a Nebraska paper had a cartoon about this problem. There were people quoting Scripture referring to the cartoon and problem, e.g., suffer the little children to come unto thee. Gil didn't comment on any solution to the problem of immigration, but he did address the problem of pulling out one verse of Scripture and building a theology around it! For example Israel as God's people were given rules how to interact and be responsible for each other, but they weren't given any guidelines for reforming the Assyrians or Babylonians. The same idea is in the New Testament the Church is responsible for people in the Church body. We do good to all men, but there aren't mandates to the church on social issues. Para. Our ease, prosperity, and freedom from difficulty are not our goals as Christians. Our highest goal is to honor Christ! The goal is of the Church is no to bring change to society. No Biblical foundation for social action being part of the Gospel! Social impact comes after people become Christian! This is especially covered in the first thirteen minutes of the sermon.
“ Great Sermon! Amazing clarity. ” Upon being saved, Jesus Christ has drawn a line in the sand between our old man who was a dutiful, powerless slave to sin and death; and our new man who has no obligation to walk in sinfulness. I kept looking at that line in the sand, praising God for his justification and forgiveness, but never believing or understanding that I now live on the "new" side of that line! How wrong it was for me to doubt or dismiss God's promise to empower me thru His Holy Spirit to be one who walks in that newness if life. If you have been saved, you are already on the new side if that line. Don't deny that power. Don't deny God's description if you as a new creature, one who has Holy Spirit power and victory. It is a done-deal. Embrace it as reality. God drew that line in my life. I kept looking at that line, I knew it was there, but I didn't realize what side I was now on as a child ofGod. I am so grateful for my justification, but now I must live to honor his promise of power over sin in the new man.
“ Great Sermon! and I made an error. ” Ah, the verses of the Bible I quoted were from 2 Peter not 1 Peter. in my first note. Para. I should make this message as long as my first, though I won't; but I will point out that Gil went into detail about the European Union in this message, and gave a very good idea about the various events concerning the EU preceding the start of the Tribulation. He also explained it is not Mother Nature, but Father God Who is responsible for all weather beneficial or destructive. Para. Gil's sermons are not like most sermons from a mainline preacher, who thinks the congregation can only handle three concepts in a sermon, but has a higher opinion of us as a congregation, and so he believes we can handle more than that. So, usually the space allotted for even an official summary is not nearly enough for most of Gil's sermons. Sorry about my error on the Scripture verses, I am getting new glasses ;-)
“ Acts of God using Nature and Man ” As Gil pointed out, we look forward to Christ's return which He has promised. As Christians we look forward to that with anticipation, and this anticipation seems to peak around the New Year. To the world it's a cycle of meaningless hopes and promises, but for us, it's to be an ongoing expectation. We of all people shouldn't allow this expectation to become time worn. Para. 1 Peter 3: 2 to be mindful of the words spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of the Lord and Saviour by your apostles; 3 knowing this first, that there shall come at the close of the days mockers with mocking, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for from the time the fathers fell asleep all things remain thus from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this is hidden from them through their own wilfulness, that heavens were of old, and an earth, having its subsistence out of water and in water, by the word of God, 6 through which waters the then world, deluged with water, perished. 7 But the present heavens and the earth by his word are laid up in store, kept for fire unto a day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.---Darby V. Para. Judgement is real and sure and the future isn't bright for the unbeliever. Note! Acts of God!
“ We must accept God's Sovereignty ” The last four chapters of Job are a unit that causes the completion of the sufferings of Job. Job finally gets what he's been seeking, to confront God! It doesn't go as Job expected, there's no discussion about dealing with the righteous and the wicked. It is all about the exaltation of God who is the Creator, the Sustainer, and Controller of all. He sustains everything. The only issue that's dealt with is His position as Sovereign over all. Para. This is really all about God speaking to Job. It might be broken down to two speeches by God to Job. Job's response to God's first speech is to manifest humility. After God's second speech, Job's response is one of repentance. There is a resolution to the problem that Job faced though no specific answers to Job's questions. Para. God's power is demonstrated in nature and His control over all of nature. God made his presence known out of the whirlwind, a theophany. A theophany is a physical manifestation of the presence of God at a special time and way. Para. Wishy-washy sentimentalism has no place in our respect for God! We must never loose are awe and reverence for God. We have no right to be a faultfinder of God. Job acknowledges he has no right to contend with God. God chooses how to use His sovereignty.
“ Have the eyes of your heart opened ” ?The work of God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit is the seal that God has placed on us and in us. The indwelling Spirit is permanent proof that we are secure in our salvation. It is more unnatural for us not to love our Christian family than not to love our natural family. The Apostle Paul accepted as proof that a person was a Christian when they loved other Christians, If you have no love for other believers, no desire to be with them, no concern over them, then that is an indication you don't have saving faith in Jesus Christ. Para. Paul gave continual thanks for believers like those in Ephesus. Paul not only gave thanks but asks for God's attention to their needs. Paul wanted God to do three things for the Ephesians, they would know the hope of His calling, know the glory of his inheritance, and know the greatness of his power. He prayed they would have the spirit and revelation, so they would have a full Christian life. Paul wanted them to have more than an intellectual grasp of God, but a fuller emotional attachment to Him. Para. We don't study the Word to confirm our preconceived ideas, but to more fully understand God. You aren't seeing with eyes of your heart if you aren't excited about what you read in the Word. You are to know there is no insignificant Christian!
“ Great Sermon! on Self-Righteousness ” To paraphrase: Par. Pastor Gil isn't one of the 1500 to tell you how to vote in 2012. Gil is more concerned with what Bible believing Christians should be concerned about. Gil uses the term "Evangelical," as shorthand phrase in this sermon, though it has little meaning anymore. Gil looks at those Evan. leaders who look at candidates as being moral or not. Par. You have to clarity and understanding of Romans I. What is immoral is promoted as normal by some politicians. [More & more of them!] Many Evans. say we have to stand for the Biblical morals. All secular men suppress God's truth and everyone knows the truth about God, but they are without excuse according to Romans I. They are futile in their reasoning and their hearts are darkened. Sin makes them stupid. They worship themselves. Par. The problem in this country isn't,.e.g., homosexual marriage as some Evan. pastors say, stopping this won't even stop the decay of the country for the foolishness of these men has to be dealt with. Their corrupt heart is the disease; their behavior is just a symptom. Par. Treating symptoms is denial of what God said. When you are judging people who aren't Christian, you condemn yourself. Prideful moralists are guilty before God. Christian "Pharisees" aren't following Christ.

Only the one sacrifice of Christ took care of our sin forever. Gil, pointed out, the Mass is a demonic practice and Evangelicals cannot think we have anything in common with the Romish Church whose practices are based on lies. There is a chasm between Christians and Roman Catholics. It is nonsense to think it can be bridged. Christians don't be confused or be blurry about the single sacrifice of Christ. Gil points out the importance between the false Romish Mass, and Christ's true sacrifice for our sins.
