God has equipped the Church to function by the giving of special abilities to those whom He has sovereignly placed into the Body. Those who have been placed into the Body have been identified with Christ and indwelt by the Spirit. Every member of the Body, with the unique giftedness given them by the Spirit, is essential and necessary for the Body to function effectively and efficiently.
Are all the gifts mentioned in the Bible still necessary for the functioning of the Church today? Is God still giving direct revelation to man today?
This careful study of the Scriptures reveals that the Truth given by God to the Church through the prophets and apostles is complete. Having completed His revelation to the Church, the giftedness that enabled it to be written down and communicated to the Church are no longer needed nor are those abilities that authenticated their ministry.
Much confusion has resulted from a misunderstanding of the spiritual gifts given to the Church today. In the context of this letter of Paul's to the Corinthians we learn crucial details for understanding what are true abilities given to believers today and which, if claimed to be in use, are not a supernatural ability given by the Spirit.

Great Sermon! Ah, some URLs have changed through time. Unfortunately, comments to sermons are not formatted and putting up a URL, it make get split into pieces so put it together again, please. URL for the sermon, "Use and Purpose of Tongues, Prophecy, and Serving" http://www.sermonaudio.com/ser moninfo.asp?SID=48111320162
Also a URL for the sermon "Some Gifts Not Present Today" http://www.sermonaudio.com/ser moninfo.asp?SID=48111249372 The URL for John MacArthur's "Charismatic Chaos" has also been changed, so for the free, printed Internet version of these sermons try, http://articles.ochristian.com /book2177.shtml As Gil has plainly pointed out in this and other sermons, some of the gifts seen in the one and only Church that had Apostles present, passed with them!

Great Sermon! Even Jesus couldn't do great miracles in his unbelieving home town. You will undoubtedly receive from God according to your faith, it is unlikely you will pray, believe or declare the miraculous power of God. Therefore, sadly, you will miss out on the terrifyingly wonderful experience of his mighty works. Please prayerfully reconsider the scriptures and the logic behind your position. A known prophet, Agabus, informed Paul that capture and prison awaited him in Jerusalem. Certainly the gifts of the spirit operated beyond the original Apostles in the early church, how much more do we need them now. God has often givne me supernatural knowledge leading to breakthrough and repentance in those I pray for and minister to. I have received insight from the Spirit regarding some stranger I would soon pray for. Healing, repentance and saving faith have resulted and lasted for the decades since the experience. Please let God out of your box. Risk your reputation and pride, your education and paradigm and watch Jesus come through for you and transform your restricting theories into repeatable supernatural experiences for his glory. Blessing and great joy be to you and yours!

Has the perfect come? Do not be discouraged! God still works miracles among us. This is the heritage of every believer in Christ. Those who declare otherwise are not experiencing all God intends for you. It also gives us an excuse for not praying for the sick or attempting great things in the Kingdom.I have seen "small" miracles when I pray. (instant healing from pain and sickness, deliverance from demons etc.)God will have his way and display his glory; somewhere, somehow, despite any doubt individuals may have.
