Everyone grapples with sin. People who are not believers often don't realize they're grappling with sin. The hot word today is addiction. People don't have a sin problem, they're struggling with addiction. If I come up to you and say I'm a drunk, you'd say straighten up. If I say I'm an alcoholic, you say oh, that's too bad. Romans six drives home the point very strongly that sin is addictive. It enslaves and controls the person. The world has rejected the concept of sin. They have rejected the word of God. Believers are also confused on the issue of sin. Part of our problem is we have adopted the world's procedure of categorizing our sins. We think that every sin is unique and so must be dealt with in a special and unique way. As soon as you say the bible is not sufficient to deal with sin of any kind you have a problem. You're saying the bible is not adequate for the very purpose it exists, to liberate, to bring a message of liberation for man in his fallen sinful condition.

Great Sermon! Amazing clarity. Upon being saved, Jesus Christ has drawn a line in the sand between our old man who was a dutiful, powerless slave to sin and death; and our new man who has no obligation to walk in sinfulness. I kept looking at that line in the sand, praising God for his justification and forgiveness, but never believing or understanding that I now live on the "new" side of that line! How wrong it was for me to doubt or dismiss God's promise to empower me thru His Holy Spirit to be one who walks in that newness if life. If you have been saved, you are already on the new side if that line. Don't deny that power. Don't deny God's description if you as a new creature, one who has Holy Spirit power and victory. It is a done-deal. Embrace it as reality. God drew that line in my life. I kept looking at that line, I knew it was there, but I didn't realize what side I was now on as a child ofGod. I am so grateful for my justification, but now I must live to honor his promise of power over sin in the new man.

Truly Brilliant Sermon! This sermon is right up there amongst the most brilliant I have ever heard! Gil Rugh has taken false assumptions and beliefs that have become so common in the Church and stood them on their head, and revealed the Truth of what God says about sin in a marvelously clear and understandable way.
I recommend this message to anyone wanting to get a handle on why they have not overcome sin in their lives.
In the fall of 1969, Gil began a full-time teaching ministry as Senior Pastor of Indian Hills Community Church. He also earned his Ph.D. from the California Graduate School of Theology. The focus of Pastor Rugh’s ministry is systematic, verse-by-verse teaching of the Bible. As a...
