Forgiveness is not an option for the believer individually nor corporately in the church. Sin can be responded to in unbiblical ways by either tolerating sin without confrontation or being unwilling to accept the one who has repented of their sin. Sin tolerated and unrebuked will always have a permeating effect and influence on the church as the effects ripple out. Sin tolerated makes a statement about the acceptance of sin in contradiction to the Scriptures. Sin must be confronted according to the pattern God has given in His Word. When sin is repented of it must be forgiven as one who has been forgiven by God. Neither quantity nor quality of sin excuse the offended from forgiving from the heart. Once sin is repented of the responsibility of believers individually and corporately is to forgive, comfort, and reaffirm love for them.

Great Sermon! http://www.independencebaptist .org/Articles/Articles/why_adul terous_pastors_should_not_be_re stored.htm "Why Adulterous Pastors Should Not Be Restored" and http://www.gty.org/resources/a rticles/a256/should-fallen-past ors-be-restored "Should Fallen Pastors Be Restored?" ¶ The first URL is for exactly the same sermon that I mentioned in my first post, but they changed the URL! Ah, one of the irritations in life. I saw the need to correct that URL. ¶ I also just ran across a John MacArthur article from a book done late in the last century, but which I just saw on the 06/23/2015. Both these articles give examples of forgiveness -- but not restoration! Both are good articles, John MacArthur's is the shorter of the two. John certainly doesn't pull any punches in his article!

First part of the trio http://www.sermonaudio.com/ser moninfo.asp?SID=2170612618 "How the Church Must Deal with Sin" is first part of the trio that I mentioned in my first comment. For some unknown reason, probably my fault the URL for the above got mangled. I haven't added a comment to that sermon, because what the summary says is just all too true. ¶ Anyway, I think the two audio sermons, this being listened to first then the one the comment is for, and finally the article which is the first URL listed should be considered together. ¶ I just checked this one, http://www.sgbaptist.com/artic les/adultero.htm and there was a break in the URL also :-( So, when people put up comments with URLs, and I would seriously doubt that I'm the only one, look for breaks in the URL etc. When all else fails do a sermon or Internet search. :-/

Great Sermon--but even better in a trio!!! http://www.sgbaptist.com/artic les/adultero.htm and the sermon, "How the church is to deal with sin," http://www.sermonaudio.com/ser moninfo.asp?SID=2170612618 are really germane to this sermon. The second URL will direct you to the sermon that could easily be a precursor to this one, and I would think they should actually be linked together as parts one and two, on how the church should deal with sin. So, I would suggest that you listen to the first sermon with its URL listed here, then listen to the one that this message is a comment on. They fit very well together. para Gil just touched on the consequences of sin in the commented sermon, the article listed in the first URL really goes into depth about forgiveness but not full restoration of privileges, as Pastor Wayne Reynolds said, "There is a difference between forgiveness and trust....We are the ones that grant forgiveness - they are the ones that earn trust....Forgiveness is granted - trust is earned.... [for example,] an adulterous pastor should not be restored again to pastoring, but there are many opportunities for ministering other than pastoring...." para Now, of course this is my personal opinion, but it appears to me the two sermons and this article together makes a very complete statement on how to handle sin!
In the fall of 1969, Gil began a full-time teaching ministry as Senior Pastor of Indian Hills Community Church. He also earned his Ph.D. from the California Graduate School of Theology. The focus of Pastor Rugh’s ministry is systematic, verse-by-verse teaching of the Bible. As a...
