“ Informative Sermon! ”
Gil gave a detailed introduction to the book of 1st Corinthians. Gil will give a more detailed description of people than would be given a Bible commentary such as an Apostle--in this case Paul.

Walk in Love

“ Love is the greatest attribute! ”
Gil looked at Gal. 5:22 and so did Scofield. ☛ Schofield reference notes, 1917 edition ¶ Ephesians 5:25 ¶ ¶even as Christ ¶ Christ's love-work for the church is threefold: past, present, future: (1) For love He gave Himself to redeem the church (Ephesians 5:25); (2) in love He is sanctifying the church (Ephesians 5:26); (3) for the reward of His sacrifice and labour of love He will present the church to Himself in flawless perfection, "one pearl of great price" (Ephesians 5:27) Matthew 13:46. ¶ Galatians 5:22 ¶ ¶But the fruit ¶ Christian character is not mere moral or legal correctness, but the possession and manifestation of nine graces: love, joy, peace--character as an inward state; longsuffering, gentleness, goodness--character in expression toward man; faith, meekness, temperance-- character in expression toward God. Taken together they present a moral portrait of Christ, and may be taken as the apostle's explanation of Galatians 2:20 "Not I, but Christ," and as a definition of "fruit" in John 15:1-8 This character is possible because of the believer's vital union to Christ ; John 15:5; 1 Corinthians 12:12,13 and is wholly the fruit of the Spirit in those believers who are yielded to Him. Galatians 5:22,23.

“ Great Sermon--on what to emphasize! ”
I am pleased that Gil reiterated the proper place of politics and secular activity. ¶ It isn't pointed out enough! ¶ Psalm 146 ¶ 1 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! 2 I will praise the Lord while I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. 3 Do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. 4 His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts perish. 5 How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, Whose hope is in the Lord his God, 6 Who made heaven and earth, The sea and all that is in them; Who keeps faith forever; 7 Who executes justice for the oppressed; Who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free. 8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; The Lord raises up those who are bowed down; The Lord loves the righteous; 9 The Lord protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow, But He thwarts the way of the wicked. 10 The Lord will reign forever, Your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!----NASB

Samuel's Early Years

“ Listen to the sermon - Read the summery! ”
The life of Samuel demonstrate something even to us in these times. Religious leadership should be based on meritocracy and not nepotism! ☛ ¶1 Samuel 2:22-25 ¶ ¶22. Now Eli was very old; and he heard all that his sons were doing to all Israel, and how they lay with the women who served at the doorway of the tent of meeting. 23. He said to them, “Why do you do such things, the evil things that I hear from all these people? 24. No, my sons; for the report is not good which I hear the Lord’s people circulating. 25. If one man sins against another, God will mediate for him; but if a man sins against the Lord, who can intercede for him?” But they would not listen to the voice of their father, for the Lord desired to put them to death. ---NASB ¶ ¶Webster's revised unabridged dictionary published 1913 Nep″o‐tism (?; 277) , n. [L. nepus , nepotus , nephew: cf. F. népotisme . See Nephew .] Undue attachment to relations; favoritism shown to members of one's family; bestowal of patronage in consideration of relationship, rather than of merit or of legal claim. ¶ ¶From nepotism [Pope] Alexander V. was safe; for he was without kindred or relatives. But there was another perhaps more fatal nepotism , which turned the tide of popularity against him — the nepotism of his order. Milma

“ Interesting Verse ”
Hebrews 11 "Verse 27. By faith he forsook Egypt. Some have understood this of the first time in which Moses forsook Egypt, when he fled into Midian, as recorded in Ex 2; the majority of expositors have supposed that it refers to the time when he left Egypt to conduct the Israelites to the promised land. That the latter is the time referred to is evident from the fact that it is said that he did "not fear the wrath of the king." When Moses first fled to the land of Midian it is expressly said that he went because he did fear the anger of Pharaoh for his having killed an Egyptian, Ex 2:14,15. He was at that time in fear of his life; but when he left Egypt at the head of the Hebrew people, he had no such apprehensions...."---Barnes' New Testament Notes IHCC had a guest pastor for the last sunday's evening service, Peter, Gil, and Albert all agree with the above! So, Gil and Peter's sermons would be well worth listening to. Go check your Study Bible and see what it says.

Reading these verses made me immediately think of the Eph. series! ☛ ¶John 17:21-23 ¶21. that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22. The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; 23. “ Gil attacks works salvation-Excellent! ”
My tablet really messed up this time! I'm not sure why I recopied the snippet from Barnes commentary but read it it's entirety, it is a long and excellent one on allegory and why my tablet seems to put it in the below amazes me. of course it's all my tablet's fault. ☟ ;-) So certainly listen to Gil Rugh's sermon and read what' the written summary covers--it is good also! ¶Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on the Entire Bible ¶Galatians 4 ¶21-27 The difference between believers who rested in Christ only, and those who trusted in the law, is explained by the histories of Isaac and Ishmael. These things are an allegory, wherein, beside the literal and historical sense of the words, the Spirit of God points out something further. Hagar and Sarah were apt emblems of the two different dispensations of the covenant. The heavenly Jerusalem, the true church from above, represented by Sarah, is in a state of freedom, and is the mother of all believers, who are born of the Holy Spirit. They were by regeneration and true faith, made a part of the true seed of Abraham, according to the promise made to him. ¶ ☚Matthew Henry certainly doesn't mean the same thing as Dispensationalists mean by the term, "dispensations" he isn't wrong he just has a different meaning for it!

“ 'In the heavenlies ”
Gil Rugh like all careful, expositional preachers examine the verses they use. The Bible user should note that translators added the word, "places" because it fills out what they thought was meant, but it doesn't! As Dr. Rugh and as Scofield also pointed out. ☛ ¶ ¶Scofield Reference Notes, 1917 Edition ¶ Eph. 1:3 ¶in heavenly places ¶Literally, the heavenlies. The same Greek word is used in John 3:12 where "things" is added. In both places the word signifies that which is heavenly in contradistinction to that which is earthy. In Ephesians "places" is especially misleading. "The heavenlies" may be defined as the sphere of the believer's spiritual experience as identified with Christ in nature. 2 Peter 1:4, life, ; Colossians 3:4; 1 John 5:12, relationships ; John 20:17; Hebrews 2:11 service, ; John 17:18; Matthew 28:20, suffering ; Philippians 1:29; 3:10; Colossians 1:24 inheritance Romans 8:16,17 and future glory in the kingdom ; Romans 8:18-21; 1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 1:6; 5:10. The believer is a heavenly man, and a stranger and pilgrim on the earth. ; Hebrews 3:1; 1 Peter 2:11. ¶ ¶Listen to the sermon for many other issues! Like the relationship between God the Father and God the Son--and the Holy Spirit.

“ God hates liars! ”
God willing, I will read the entire 1977 NASB this year! I hit a bump on the road When I got to Mark 10:30. No study bible really wanted to handle it - -at least not the ones I have.Thankfully, I have some golden oldie commentaries such as those by Matthew Henry, besides Barnes and Clarke that do! ☛ ¶Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on the Whole Bible ¶Mark 10:23-31 Christ took this occasion to speak to his disciples about the difficulty of the salvation of those who have abundance of this world. Those who thus eagerly seek the wealth of the world, will never rightly prize Christ and his grace. Also, as to the greatness of the salvation of those who have but little of this world, and leave it for Christ. The greatest trial of a good man's constancy is, when love to Jesus calls him to give up love to friends and relatives. Even when gainers by Christ, let them still expect to suffer for him, till they reach heaven. Let us learn contentment in a low state, and to watch against the love of riches in a high one. Let us pray to be enabled to part with all, if required, in Christ's service, and to use all we are allowed to keep in his service. ¶The rich young ruler, reminded me of Ananias and Sapphira except for one fatal flaw of theirs--brazen lying!!

“ Don't miss the Christophany! ”
Joshua 5:14-15¶ 14. He said, “No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the Lord.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to him, “What has my lord to say to his servant?” 15. The captain of the Lord’s host said to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so. ---NASB¶ ¶Adam Clarke Commentary ¶Joshua 5:13 ¶There stood a man over against him] It has been a very general opinion, both among the ancients and moderns, that the person mentioned here was no other than the Lord Jesus in that form which, in the fulness of time, he was actually to assume for the redemption of man. That the appearance was supernatural is agreed on all hands; and as the name Jehovah is given him, (Jos 6:2,) and he received from Joshua Divine adoration, we may presume that no created angel is intended....¶ We have to thank Dr. Rugh for pointing out, Christophany, which he and other conservative pastors point out, and indeed even a famous 19th Methodist theologian and scholar Adam Clarke also pointed out as in above. It's amazing how many so-called conservative Christian sources such as study Bibles and dictionaries want to overlook the subject of theophany!¶ Listen to the sermon and read the

“ It -all- depends on our relationship to Christ! ”
Barnes' New Testament Notes ¶Romans 8:15 ¶The Spirit of adoption. The feeling of affection, love, and confidence which pertains to children; not the servile, trembling spirit of slaves, but the temper and affectionate regard of sons. Adoption is the taking and treating a stranger as one's own child. It is applied to Christians because God treats them as his children; he receives them into this relation, though they were by nature strangers and enemies. It implies, (1.) that we by nature had no claim on him; (2.) that, therefore, the act is one of mere kindness--of pure, sovereign love; (3.) that we are now under his protection and care; and (4.) that we are bound to manifest towards him the spirit of children, and yield to him obedience. Jn 1:12. Comp. Gal 4:5 Eph 1:5.✓ It is for this that Christians are so often called the sons of God. Whereby we cry. As children who need protection and help. This evinces the habitual spirit of a child of God; a disposition,¶ (1.) to express towards him the feelings due to a father; (2.) to call upon him-- to address him in the language of affection and endearing confidence; (3.) to seek his protection and aid.¶ ✓Listen to the sermon and read the summary!

“ Fine sermon - listen to it for details! ”
From my free Bible program that has the Easton Bible Dictionary, I removed some Bible verses indicated by ellipses to highlight Ephesians! ¶Details in the sermon! ¶Easton's Bible Dictionary ¶Election of Grace The Scripture speaks ¶(1) of the election of individuals to office or to honour and privilege, e.g., Abraham, Jacob, Saul, David, Solomon, were all chosen by God for the positions they held; so also were the apostles. ¶(2) There is also an election of nations to special privileges, e.g., the Hebrews ( Deut. 7:6 ; Rom. 9:4 ). ¶(3) But in addition there is an election of individuals to eternal life ( ...Eph. 1:4...). The ground of this election to salvation is the good pleasure of God ( Eph. 1:5...). God claims the right so to do ( Rom. 9:16 , 21 ). It is not conditioned on faith or repentance, but is of soverign grace (...Eph. 1:3-6 ). All that pertain to salvation, the means ( Eph. 2:8... ) as well as the end, are of God ( ...Eph. 2:5 , 10 ). Faith and repentance and all other graces are the exercises of a regenerated soul; and regeneration is God’s work, a “new creature.” Men are elected “to salvation,” “to the adoption of sons,” “to be holy and without blame before him in love” (...Eph. 1:4 ). The ultimate end of election is the praise of God’s grace ( Eph. 1:6 , 1

“ sermon on solving mens' 'heart' problem! ”
Scofield Reference Notes, 1917 Edition¶ ¶Grace. Summary: ¶(1) Grace is "the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man. . . not by works of righteousness which we have done" Titus 3:4,5. It is, therefore, constantly set in contrast to law, under which God demands righteousness from man, as, under grace, he gives righteousness to man Romans 3:21,22; 8:4; Philemon 3:9. Law is connected with Moses and works; grace with Christ and faith ; John 1:17; Romans 10:4-10. Law blesses the good; grace saves the bad ; Exodus 19:5; Ephesians 2:1-9. Law demands that blessings be earned; grace is a free gift ; Deuteronomy 28:1-6; Ephesians 2:8; Romans 4:4,5. ¶(2) As a dispensation, grace begins with the death and resurrection of Christ Romans 3:24-26 4:24,25. The point of testing is no longer legal obedience as the condition of salvation, but acceptance or rejection of Christ, with good works as a fruit of salvation, ; John 1:12,13; 3:36; Matthew 21:37; 22:24; Joh 15:22 Joh 15:25; Hebrews 1:2; 1 John 5:10-12....The predicted end of the testing of man under grace is the apostasy of the professing church: See "Apostasy" (See Scofield "2 Timothy 3:1") 2 Timothy 3:1-8 and the resultant apocalyptic judgments.... ¶ (3)...¶
