Great Sermon! Possibly the most impassioned sermon on 1st Peter 3:18 I have EVER heard.
I am halfway thinkinng about moving out to NC just to hear this man preach again. This man won't pull punches without going overboard....this sermon is a must to listen to.
Great Sermon! Just a shame that quite a lot of this sermon was almost inaudible, because what encouragement and help it has been to me.
Thank you and God bless you and your ministry, Mr Barkman.
Cathy.
Alcohol The "wine really means grape juice" is a Mormon belief. It's an example of clear Scripture being muddied to fit a church belief.
From a societal standpoint, condemning alcohol was a valid belief. Alcohol was destroying families wholesale in the early 1900's leading to the Prohibition Movement. The Prohibition Movement was not a religious movement. It was a response to what was occuring in society. Somehow, it managed to become doctrine in many churches.
A Sermon Audio Welcome Pastor Belcher is a familiar name to us, through his writings, now it is good to have access to some sermons. Last month I had only one book with me on vacation in Santo Domingo besides my Bible. The letters of A W Pink, "Letters of an Itinerant Preacher -1920-1921." I already possessed the A. W. Pink, Letters from Spartanburg that you reprinted. Thank you for reprinting these, I look forward to hearing your preaching. Years ago I read your bio of Pink, Born to Write.
Great Sermon! Pastor Barkman,
I have listened to several of your sermons/lectures. It is refreshing to hear someone who speaks clearly, properly, and respectfully (you have not forgotten the value of being polite.) This message, I hope will be listened to by my father and sister (I have time late this summer to travel home), who developed in nominal fashion, and need to hear what you have to say. Thank you.
Great Sermon! God's grace in His recovering the weary unto death. The practical kindness of God towards the saints is expressed. What an ending! God is sovereign in His care for us.
Quality Expositional Preaching This is a profitable study of Romans 11. Pastor Barkman gives a good study that examines what the apostle Paul was saying the the Hebrew remnant elected by God's grace about the future of their nation, Israel. There are nuggets within the sermons...like about Eschatology in the introduction or Grace and Works in verses 5 and 6. It is hard to find quality expositional preaching in Churches today. So it is a rare gem to find such preaching as Pastor Barkman gives.
What about Israel? One of the areas of knowledge that the Church is weak in...it is concerning Israel. The Reformation did not develop a comprehensive study of Israelology. This is due to their emergence from Romanism and their doctrine of Replacment Theology. So it took several centuries before this error was purged from some Protestants and Separatist from their eschatology. It would take another century for Evangelicals and Messianics to develop the study of Israelology. But centuries before Paul deal with his own Israelology in Romans 9-11. Pastor Barkman in this introduction deals with this question "What about Israel?" He lays out how ones eschatology affects how one interprets this difficult chapter of Romans 11. He deals with the different interpretations....and then develops how we can look at what Paul is saying to understand Israel's future in God's program.
Great Sermon! What a practical, challenging, and encouraging sermon...it has made a difference with our family in days! I am passing it on to friends and family members! It offers helpful, specific advice and focuses on the most important goal of parenting.
Scripture teaches the wisdom of abstinence The recommendation of changing the Church Covenant is unfounded based on what the Encyclopedia(quoted in sermon as partial support for change) or other uninspired writings which are given and influenced the sermon. The Church Covenant stands according to the complete word of God taken as a whole. The Bible Support basis for the sermon was Romans 14,consider also the words of the prophets and poets of the Old Testament.
# Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker,Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
# Proverbs 31:6
Give strong drink to him who is perishing, And wine to those who are bitter of heart.
Read Proverbs 23: 29-35 Who has Woe?Who has strife? This is a vivid description of the devasting and deceptiveness of alcohol consumption.
Consider Ephesians 5:18
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,
Great Sermon! Greg I listened to this message on alcohol consumption and "technically" agree with you as I do on most of you sermons, but here is the BUT, you fail to take into consideration our culture, and maybe if Paul reappeared today and saw the massive damage and health costs to the western world he would strongly advise to avoid it like the plague. I am speaking from a position of experience here as my father is suffering and will most likely die from alcohol abuse in the near future. Alcohol as we know it today is the curse of western civilisation, maybe the muslims are wiser than us on this one.
God Bless Brother I love your ministry and will continue to listen.
Just What I Needed I have listen to many sermons on this sight, but this was the first one on the subject of God's Will. And personally, I don't know that I will have to listen to another one on the subject for a while--even though I know there probably are so many other great sermons on the subject. This one gave me exactly what I was looking for; He not only explained much, but gave some step by step applications to use in my life and that is how to make things happen! Awesome. Thank you for making my day a little better.
