You are heaven bound Brother Tom Dear Bro Tom, that hurt my heart to hear your testimony of your aunt that would dare condemn you for simply desiring the truth of Christ’s saving Gospel rather than staying puffed up on the pride of our own self righteous works. As you cited “ There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12). Note the word describes “a way”, and indeed men have many ways who do they each consider in their vanity as the right preferable way. Yet it was Christ Himself who said He is THE WAY, The Truth and The Life. There is only way to heaven and that is in and through the righteous blood and atonement of God’s only begotten Son. All other ways are false, self-deluding distractions that lead to condemnation and are an offense unto the God of heaven. May the Gospel you preach save them for whom it was sent, and may God reassure your heart and their hearts in the face of false accusers under the sway of the devil.
Wonderful Word from God This is a wonderful word from the LORD, thank you Brother Tom. And when I think of those verses in Ephesians 2:6-7 of our heavenly reality in eternity now, it reminds me of dinner banquet where you have a reserved spot at the table. This is how our place with Christ is described, for our life and treasure are hid in Him and shall be revealed when He returns in glory. Amen, blessed is the King of kings and Lord of lords who has invited us to the marriage supper and made all things ready for us, even dressing us in holy apparel of His righteousness, that we might behold, worship and praise Him who has done all things well. Hallelujah!
Amen! Morality does not equal Righteousness Powerful and edifying sermon dear brother Tom! Thank you for being such a faithful minister of Christ’s grace and Gospel to a spiritually blind and deaf world. But your statement that “morality does not equal righteousness” is so profound and is indeed a major mistake many people, religious and irreligious alike, foolishly assuming it will be enough to get them past God’s just scrutiny and assessment. The problem is we humans are tainted by sin, not even just physically as our bodies decay from corruption of disease but especially in our natural “moral” instincts and inclinations that are habitually selfward. Therefore as you and other astute theologians have observed, our so-called morality is deceptively biased, subjective and graded on a curve. We are too easy on ourselves and too critical of God and His standards. Just as the exchange between God and Israel in Ezekiel 18 reveals, sinful depraved man wants a free ride even if he chooses to remain in sin, but which God declares must be judged and punished. Man wants to be remembered for the so called good he “has done”; God says it doesn’t matter what you did but what you are still doing. Repentance and becoming like Christ are ongoing, but men want an “overall score” of morality which will never equal out in their favor.
Jesus Christ Is To Be Preached This message from 1990 is superb and still relevant. The pastor clarified what Acts 2 was really about instead of what the Pentecostal Movement teaches today. The Holy Spirit is to glorify Christ and not to be put above Christ. Today one of the leading "religious" television networks declares itself to be Pentecostal and it presents people who say they have gone to heaven and hell and returned, they say they have had messages and visions from the Holy Spirit in dreams, and this network does not line up accurately with what the Bible teaches but operates on emotionalism. This network does not teach the true gospel. Millions are following these lies and giving them millions of dollars. God Is Not Mocked.
Great Sermon! Wonderful proclamation of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ! This message blessed my soul, glory be to God, praise His mighty name!
Obedience Is Not Inconsistent With Reverence Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's and render unto God the things that are God's.
What most people do not realize nor do they understand is that God is in control over ALL. There is nothing that goes on in this world that is not under God's control.
Every single person of power in this world has been allowed for a specific reason by God. Nothing happens without God's approval. People forget that.
When the question was posed to Christ regarding taxes being paid, Christ basically explained it. People want to believe that they have freedom here in this world and they could not be more wrong. In order to accept the theory of freedom in this world, they rob God of His complete and total power over EVERYTHING in this world.
This is a sermon that Henry has preached many times, but it is still worth listening to and getting something from.
The Lord Our Righteousness This is an interesting sermon in the sense that Henry reminds us throughout the sermon of the fact that we are sinners in the flesh, but that the elect have been saved and redeemed and are righteous in the sight of God through Jesus Christ or as the sermon lists - Jehovah Tsidkenu - The Lord Our Righteousness.
The sermon is very refreshing in the sense that it brings us to the point of reminding us where we came from and where we are at. And it serves to help us concentrate on what is actually of importance. We should never lose sight of Jesus Christ no matter what is going on in our lives. He is the reason that the elect will stand before God and be welcomed into His presence. And that we may truly be citizens of Heaven.
Render Unto God This is an interesting sermon. It basically centers around the questioning of Christ by the Sadducees and Pharisees. The questions that they put to Christ.
The beginning of the sermon starts out with the question of do the Jews have to pay taxes. And Christ answers with the inscription of a coin. Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's.
Henry explains that statement, which lays the groundwork for the rest of the sermon - in essence.
Henry emphasizes what scripture says in Romans 13. Basically, submit to authority. Why? Because God placed each & every one of them in the position that they are in. Or, God is in control of EVERYTHING. If you trust God, you have no problem here. And it is only an issue when authority conflicts with God. Then you have to choose.
Very interesting sermon. It would make one look at things just a little differently and ask the all important question of "Who do I really believe in?"
Pulling Back the Curtain On Our Own Self Deceit Man oh man, Henry does really does preach the true word of God in this sermon.
He does what other preachers are scared to do. He tells us how we are as human beings and it ain't pretty. He shows us in multiple examples how we don't even come close to honoring the two most important commandments. He shows us just how selfish, self centered, hateful, demeaning and insulting that we really are as human beings. He does what needs to be done. A righteous preacher, one who strives to preach the true word of God, will do exactly this. Because at the end of the day, even preachers have to stand before God and give answer to God.
We, as people, need to hear these words. If you are one who is seeking to become closer to God, to KNOW Him and believe in Him, you need to hear this sermon.
There is no one out there who doesn't need to hear it, no matter what they may think of themselves.
The King Will Honor His Son Sometimes parables are easily understood. This one could be that way. At least to some of us. But, it is the hearing of Henry explaining it where more detail is added to the understanding. All the better for the children of God.
The guy who shows up at the wedding feast and is asked why he is there is symbolic of the majority of humanity who think they believe in God, who think that they are saved, but in all actuality have no real clue.
All these churches, all these people who think that they are saved, only to find out at the end of the day that they weren't even close. What a wake up call that will be.
Henry does a superb job with this scripture in explaining it so that it can be easily understood.
Having One's Eyes Opened This is a scripture that very few people truly understand. They think that they do, but it is not how they choose to believe it to be.
Henry takes this very simple scripture and explains it so that anyone who is truly seeking can understand it.
Just because God calls a person, doesn't mean that they go to Heaven or are saved. That's the bitter pill associated with this passage, the one thing that people do not want to accept.
Many are called - but few are chosen. A hard reality to bear.
And, as scripture so aptly explains, you can't sneak into Heaven. God KNOWS who His people are.
The question at the end of this sermon should be - Are you one of His CHOSEN people?
The Truth In All It's Glory Henry begins this sermon with something that many people are guilty of - thinking that momma or daddy is gonna be waiting on them in heaven.
What Henry explains is that that is in fact not of any importance. What is important is GOD and GOD alone. People don't want to see that. They want to be warmed by the thought that everything that they love on this earth will be waiting for them in heaven. In other words, taking the world with them into heaven. And that so is not happening - not reality.
Henry goes as far as to point out how deceptive some of the better known hymns are that we are so used to singing.
He shows us in this sermon just how confused and misinformed that we really are and that's a scary thought, but well needed in order to come to God - honestly.
It's sermons like this that we should be well thankful for.
