LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. Psalm 15:1-2
Saving Knowledge
“No man knoweth the Father, save the Son and he to whom the Son will reveal Him” (Matthew 11:27).
Men may believe in God, but there is no way that they can know the living God except in Christ. They may know of His existence, but His essence and glory are only revealed in Christ. They may know of His works, but His will and wisdom are only seen in Christ. They may know of His power, but His purpose and decrees are only revealed in Christ. They may be acquainted with His miracles, but His mercy and grace are only received in Christ. They may behold His judgements, but His justice satisfied and honored is only revealed in Christ (2 Cor. 4:6).
If we miss a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus, we may talk of God all our lives and never really know Him (2 Tim. 1:12).
Pastor Henry T. Mahan (bulletin 1991)
FINDING THE RIGHT CHRIST
I know people who go from one church (so called) to another trying to find the right one or the one they can agree with the most. I told someone not long ago that he needed to quit trying to find the right church and find the right Christ and then and then only will he find the right church. Pastor John Chapman
TELL IT AGAIN: ONCE IS ENOUGH
“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in ONCE into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” (Hebrews 9:12).
“For by ONE offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” (Hebrews 10:14).
The sacrifice of Christ is so effectual it never has to be offered again. The Lord Jesus Christ is so precious that His one sacrifice paid for all of the sin of all of His people forever.
The sacrifice of Christ is so wonderful that His people cannot hear of the one who was sacrificed once too often. Those who are redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ never get tired of hearing of the glorious effects of that sacrifice.
Pastor Frank Tate
Justified In Christ
When the Lord pronounced the sinner as going down to his house justified in Luke 18:13…that means he went down to his house having never committed a sin. But by his own admission he was a sinner. “God be merciful to me the sinner.” How can that be? Because by the death of Christ, his sins were blotted out and he was given the righteousness and merits of Christ. If Christ never sinned, neither did he! Christ gives us a new history! All of this is true in justification. On Judgment day, every believer will be justified, as one having never sinned! As one who kept God’s Holy law perfectly! As one who loved God will all his heart and his neighbor as himself. What a glorious Gospel! Pastor Todd Nibert
WEEP NOT FOR ME
The following was written by Matthew Henry, and was found after his death (June 22, 1714).
Would you know where I am? I am at home in my Father’s house; in the mansion Jesus prepared for me there. I am where I want to be; where I have longed and often desired to be. I am no longer on a stormy sea; but in a safe and quiet harbor. My working time is done, I am resting! My sowing time is done; I am reaping! My joy is as the joy of harvest!
Would you know how it is with me? I am perfect in holiness: grace is swallowed up in glory!
Would you know what I am doing? I see God; I see Him as He is; not as through a glass darkly, but face to face. The sight is transforming, it makes me like Him! I am in the sweet enjoyment of my blessed Redeemer, whom my soul loved, and for whose sake I was willing to part with all. I am here bathing myself at the spring-head of heavenly pleasures and unutterable joys; and therefore, weep not for me. I am here singing hallelujahs incessantly to Him who sits upon the throne, and rest not day or night from praising Him!
Would you know what company I have? Blessed company - better than the best on earth; here are holy angels, and the spirits of just men made perfect. I am here with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of God; with blessed Paul, and Peter, and James, and John, and all the saints. And here I meet with many old acquaintances that I fasted and prayed with, who came here before me.
And, lastly, would you consider how long this is to continue? It is a garland that, never withers; a crown of glory that never fades away; after millions of millions of ages, it will be as fresh as it is now; and, therefore, weep not for me! Copied
