"There is a lot of revivalistic manipulation masquerading as true revival with a lot of songs and sermons that lack substance, but let's be careful how we judge, because God does occasionally move in unusual and extraordinary ways that do not easily fit into our neat little theological boxes. Yet in every authentic move of God, just like with Edwards and the revival at Northampton during the First Great Awakening, there is a temptation and tendency toward excess, so we have to test everything, keep what we can, and leave out all the rest, and the best way for us to do that is to filter everything through the person and work of Jesus Christ. Any true work of the Holy Spirit will always point to Christ in one way or another."
