Very appropriate comments, Jessica and Pikestaff.

Leonard Ravenhill, speaking of Christ, used to always ask "Are you willing to share His sorrow?"

To be Christ-like indeed entails being 'a man of sorrows and aquainted with grief.'

A quick quote from the first post on this thread, and probably the best one.

ENGINEER...

I concede that apealing to the authority of an Evangelist is flawed, and that was what my comment did. I appreciate the rebuke.

My concern was simply that people have a tendency to throw the baby out with the bath water on this issue, rejecting all preaching from the mouth of someone not using the AV.

so when a preacher uses a version other than the AV do we turn a deaf ear?

The most downloaded preacher on SA - Paul Washer - Preaches from the NASB. If you visit HeartCry and download the study he created called 'The truth about man' you will find on page 5 of the pdf that he requires students to use the NASB.

I am not arguing that b/c he uses it we should. At the same time I don't think you will convince anyone that Mr. Washer is a liberal heretic.

you can find the study ]]here

Three tenses of salvation:

Past: Justification - I have been saved from the penalty of sins past.

Future: Glorification - I will be saved from the prescence of sin in an eternal heaven.

Present: I am being saved from the power of sin here on earth.

You can lose present tense salvation, it is called backsliding. People lose the power over sin that they were once delivered from. Does that mean that they lose access to an eternal heaven? Who cares! If we are backslidden our only desire should be to return to Christ today, not on whether or not we can continue in sin. OSAS is a humanistic question, because it is only concerned with our eternal destiny, and not the glory which Christ should receive from our life today.

The greatest issue of the church today is 'dead' fundamentalism.

Those whose doctrine is straight, but their lives are entirely crooked. We need more real fundamentalists, who live out their fundamentalism.

Neil-

Thanks for the link. It was very helpful. In many ways it gave me encouragement and in others it showed me a need for repentance.

I returned yesterday from a retreat with youth from our congregation, and while it was enjoyable for the youth (not a bad thing) it seemed to have very little of the power of God upon it. The teaching was to be on attonement, regeneration, and the second birth.

The problem arose when I attempted to use pre packaged programming to accomplish the teaching. I went to the lastest youth ministry resources as opposed to going straight to the Lord. By most 'youth group' standards the retreat was great, but most of that programming from these resources is designed so that leaders who don't go to the Lord can still get by. Sadly enough I fell into the trap.

Keep up your comments, I often read them and am at the least encouraged, often challenged, and even occasionally convicted.

Neil-
You certainly hit the mark. I am a youth pastor and the pressure for most youth pastors to create a bunch of fun nonsense is huge. Unfortunately a lot of young men who are set ablaze by God end up in youth ministry (because it tends to be the 'entry level' position). They are then confronted with the congregation's idea of what youth ministry should be which is usually a bunch of games, a little lesson and your off.

Pray for youth leaders that they would be true to their calling, and their mandate to come along side of parents in order to instill biblical man and womanhood into youth who are entering a world where very few biblical men and women reside.

Hedemi you make a good point. I would even go so far as saying most Sunday morning services seem to look like a 'commercial' for Jesus.

Hidemi- I think the 'jumping' on Locke (at least in my case) has nothing to do with Palin. In fact I would stand in complete agreement with his and your disgust with how 'evangenlicals' pander to the republicans. Focus on the Family, the moral majority, and the politcal right do not represent Christ. There is no doubt much evil within their ranks, maybe as much as there is in the left or maybe even more. Of course the platform of the left is close to entirely unbiblical.

The points we make is that the attacks he makes on Palin are not biblical. The immoral often quote 'judge not' and 'he who is without sin cast the first stone'. At the same time the 'dead' fundmentalist entirely disregards the verses all together. I am a fundamentalist, but most who claim to be fundamentalist are just angry people quoting the same scriptures over and over to justify their own self righteousness.

I do not know Locke, but it appears his posting tends to lean in the dead fundamentalist direction.

Locke- The scriptures quoted were directly from the mouth of the Lord, and from the pen of the apostle Paul.

Purge evil, agreed. Judge righteous judgement, agreed. Do not even associate with the immoral, certainly I agree. Why? the same reason I agree with 'judge not lest ye be judged' and 'he who is without sin...' because it is scripture. Not because it is liberal sodomite propaganda.

You misunderstand one comment and label me a liberal blasphemer. Be careful in your railings, because in that great day of judgement when all deeds are exposed that will including your railings against truely regenerated Children of The King. That is why being slow to judge is good practice, not to enable evil, but to avoid bringing condemnation upon yourself.

You liberals are a trip. "Don't judge, judge not, let he without sin, etc," are the cries of sodomites, liberals, feminists, pedophiles, and every other moral degenerate who does not want anyone to say a word about their iniquity.

You liberals are a trip? The cries of the Sodomites? You just called Jesus and the Apostle Paul sodomites, pedophiles and feminists.

Yes we can judge right judgements, and we are to 'know them by their fruits' but be careful, the only thing worse than liberalism is 'Dead' fundamentalism.

I would like to suggest that it be made easier to post comments on the plus member blogs. It seems to be a few to many clicks to get there. It would be nice if you did not have to open the post itself to see the comment link.

Anyway, great job, this is a fantastic site, and always improving and becoming more and more useful. Thank you.

haven't been to this thread in a while. it is interesting the speculation about the position of person who posted the question. i posted it, and had no motive in posting it, nor was i trying to make a point. i was interested in what people thought, and figured just maybe i would be able to have a better understanding as comments came in.

the word 'entirely' was not meant to lean one way or the other, i thought it was a clear word, i guess not.

i apologize if this was a 'have you stopped beating your wife question' i do not think it was, but speculate away i guess.

the real problem is 'dead fundamentalism'. people who 'know' the truth and love the truth for truth's sake, and yet their lives make it obvious that the truth they know and love they certainly do not even believe.

“ Appreciated message ”
The Gospel is wonderful, and astounding, and presented clearly in the message. It is encouraging to hear a reformed preacher encouraging reformed music (rap artists) to continue in the ministry they do. To acknowledge these men who rap truth without bashing them is a bold move for a preacher who is likely associated with many who bash the very genre of rap as being heretical or from the pit. As a caution, we are all aware that there is some really lame 'Christian' music out there in all genres that is not Christian at all. (including 'Gospel Singers')

WND is typically a little sketchy. Everthing get sensationalized and most of it never amounts to anything.

It is almost like a 'conservative' national inquirer if you will.
