It has been a while since my last blog. Our church and our lives have been extremely busy. However, today in church we learned some very important truths. It is true that there will be times in every Christian's life in which we will experience a discouragement that can rock our faith. In those times, we will have a tendency to sin against God by thinking that our Lord has abandoned us. We will think that he has left us in the middle of the storm by ourselves. The scared mind will believe that Jesus has stopped caring.
This type of thinking is not biblical and to its core, it is sinful; sinful to the utmost. In Mark 6:45-52 we see the tender loving care of our Lord. Christ sends his disciples into the storm and yet while he is praying at the mountaintop, he is praying for them. The word tells us that Jesus can see them straining. Physically, this is an impossiblity. Spiritually, however, our Lord never looses sight of us. While we struggle, our Lord has his ever watchful eye on us. He never gives us more than we can handle.
When the trial becomes to much, he comes to us. Granted, he comes to us on the fourth watch and not when we would like him to. But our Lord comes to us in our most desperate need. He comes to us walking on the water. In the Old Testament, only God walks on the water. Christ does so in the New Testament. He is about to pass them by, just like God the father does in the Old Testament when demonstrating his glory to Moses. Christ is about to walk by them to show them his glory; the glory of the everlasting God. Christ identifies himself as the "I AM." This is the proper title of God. God walks on the water, is about to pass them by in order to show them his glory, and takes the sacred name of God. God never abandons us.
When Christ enters the boat, peace and order are restored. Only in Christ can a disciple have peace and security. He brings them safely to their destination. Can such a God ever forget us? Can such a God ever abandon us? No dear Brother and Sister. Never give in to the tempation of doubting our God. Ever believe that he has his heart set on you; on completing the work that he has begun.
