"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." Colossians 3:1-3
Our church just recently started a new series. We are going through the Gospel of Mark in our series entitled Christ Our Focus. As the teaching pastor of God's GardenChurch, I thought it was necessary for us, as a congregation, to come back to the place where Christ is the center of all that we do, think, and speak. It is easy, as Christians, to walk around and not fully consider whom we are serving. It is easy to speak in talking points, and not realize the severity (the eternal weight) of the things that we are speaking about.
As the above text demonstrates, the Christian life is a call to be heavenly minded (where Christ is). The life of the Christian should be focused on being well pleasing to God and not entangled with the things of this world. To the Christian, our aim is to live lives that are in harmony with our calling, to be conformed into the image of Christ, and to be ready for His eventual return. How easy it is for the Christian to lose sight of these things. How easy it is for us to get trapped by the things that "are on earth." It must not be so. As Christians, we are in need of heavenly mindedness. We are in need of focusing and continuously refocusing on Christ as our victory, sustainer, brother, and friend.
Dear Christian, spend some time thinking and praying. Speak to the Lord. Ask Him to examine you heart to see if there is anything in you that is not focused on the right priorities. Come to a place in which Christ becomes the focus of everything you do. It is in living in Christ, by the power of the Spirit, that we will be spiritually straight and correct. To all of us, may Christ be our focus now and forevermore.
