Important Sermon! The apostle Paul stated "knowing the terror of the Lord we persuade men". This terror is largely absent, even among the most orthodox. Casual orthodoxy is unorthodox because it has no fear of God, and this is essential doctrine.
That Christians should fear God's judgments has its place as the apostle John was afraid to be near a major heretic in his day, "let us flee (from him) lest we too be consumed". A fear of God's judgments upon certain persons, places, corrupt churches, etc., should cause of fear of being in their company or proximity. Christians in Christ's day were commanded to "flee to the mountains" when judgment came upon Jerusalem, and Lot was told to "flee out of Sodom". "Flee out of Babylon, let ye partake of her sins, and receive of her plagues", is a new testament warning, which Jon Edwards said was the anti-Christian church.
Thank you!!! Thank you, Pastor Martin! As a woman who thought they were modest but recently learned from a wise and honest sister that I could dress more modestly, I thank you for this sermon.
My fellow sisters in Christ, please tell your sisters if what they are wearing is immodest or "iffy"!!! As Pastor Martin said, there are those who honestly do not know that they are causing a potential stumbling block for men. As Titus 2 says, it really does have to do with not allowing the Word of God to be dishonored. (You can listen to an excellent series on Titus 2 by George McDearmon over on the RBC Louisville page).
An older women in the congregation is going to go through my wardrobe tomorrow with me, and then I will go on a mission trip to shop for clothes that will validate the Gospel!
Great Sermon! I have had, on two occasions, been able to hear something of the testimony of Albert Martin. (1)At the 10th anniversary celebration of the Reformed Baptist Church in Louisville, KY. (2)In the introduction to the notes from his teaching Pastoral Theology - My Heart For Thy Cause - edited by Brian Borgman. The rest I have learned piecing together things I have heard from his taped sermons that date back to 1963 from what what was then North Caldwell Alliance church. As I and other have always counted Pastor Martin a pastor to us, it is a pleasure to have his testimony on Sermon Audio. Having yesterday re- listened - I suppose for the 50th time or more, "Sins of Religious Apostasy" from God's Word to Our Nation - Midwest Conference RBFC 1983, I must say that I esteem Pastor Martin now as much as when I first met him in 1984 - May God raise up more men like him to preach Christ to us.
Great Sermon! Pastor Martin is a gracious gift from Christ to the church. His passionate labors on behalf of Christ, is of immeasurable value. This might shock many, but ultimately the question to ask, is stated in Isaiah 1:12 "when you come to appear before the Lord, who hath required this at your hand... our response must then be; Lord you have commanded it in your word.
Great Sermon! In response to our sister Mel, thus following up on brother Waters,
I actually attend Trinity, and I speak with now cognizant of the LORD'S EYES upon me, that the Gospel is vigorously ALIVE and THRIVING at Trinity Baptist. I testify to this, as a brother, that I have NEVER seen a church with such a strict adherence to modesty since I began fellowshipping at Trinity. The sermon was only partially in response to the dress of SOME (a minutiae) at Trinity, but rather serving as a long term admonition to our sisters (rather than a rebuke) in the love of CHRIST. Furthermore, the question of immodesty at Trinity would be a far, far, far cry from the most modest, modern-day evangelical church.
Lastly, regarding the "Addressing of the issue by a sister," well, brother Waters has spoken appropriately and biblically on the matter. I second the Scripture cited. Grace to you brother Mike.
Looking for encouragement? Encourages and Inspires godliness and a desire to serve God better in women
that are single as well married. If anyone is wondering if they should go to the effort of listening, I would say by all means, give it a try!
Great Sermon! Hello
I listened to the teaching on carnal christians and it really spoke..I have been trying to tell a professing christian that he is doing wrong by thinking it is ok to give and receive massages from the opposite sex for sexual release.. he says it is not sin, that it is healthy to give massages, it feels good and it means nothing.. it is just a "release" for those who are single and dont have actual sexual intercourse.,, he says.. what are we sposed to do about the urges .. the sexual desire etc if we are single and have no release.. he says it hurts etc.. i say we are to ask God to bring our partner etc.. and we are to crucify the flesh ..please respond.. bonnie
Very appropriate This comment is in response to the previous comment "I don't know." First, I dont believe that pastor's Martin's church has any great "issue" of dress, in comparison to others. Many churches have a far greater problem but are pastored by "dumb dogs." Second, the responibility to oversee the church is not given to "older ladies" but qualified men, who will one day give an account (Heb.13:17). Bless God for such men who speak the truth in love, regardless what it may cost.
Mike Waters
I don't know... Oh my! They obviously have some fashion "issues" going on at this church. I appreciate this pastor's admonitions; however, I feel that it would have been more appropriate to have an older, respected woman speak to the women of the church about this problem.
Great Sermon! Pastor Martin, Thank you for this sermon. I was convicted and humbled. In looking at myself and in-put form my husband and son, modesty is something that I practice but I believe I can do even more. I am so thankful that you obeyed God and preached this message. The church needs this message. I have been listening to you for about 1 1/2 years. Your solidness to preach Scripture Alone is what I desire to hear and obey. Thank you so much.
The Truth shall set you free! Thank you Pastor Martin for your obediance to the Word. The difficult task of correcting and exhorting one another to live in such a way that we honor our Lord and Saviour displays your great love for Christ's bride. It is my earnest prayer that the conviction of the Holy Spirit would penetrate any hardness of heart concerning this very important subject.
Great Sermon! As always Pastor Martin has blessed my heart. What happened to the other great sermon on rock music? I believe it was in 1985 called the parallels of rock music with the demon possessed man of the gadarene. Why was it removed?
Great Sermon! Truely convicting and thought provoking. This serman emphasises the fact that we truely need to examine ourselves to see that we are following God, and seeking to do his will on earth.
Great Sermon! A great message to which one should partake in, and inbrace before going out and witnessing. For this will give you truth and solid ground to stand on.
Outstanding, God be praised An inspirational God given sermon that I would suggest you have a pen and paper to jot down key points as the Holy Spirit would give to you. I picked out 7 key statements to which my heart was rejoicing--such as a statement he made on "the soverign work of the Holy Spirit upon your rebelliuos
childrem" and more.
Wonderful, knowledge that can certainly add to your testimony.
Warning: Professing Christians JESUS IS LORD!!!
Thank you for preaching Jesus Crucified and mans depravity in the mist of a Holy God.Hang in there Bro.
Great Sermon! 4 years on we should see some fruit from this movie. In my church we had one young guy who came because he saw The Passion, for about 2 months then we never saw him again. I never saw it, had no desire to. I was bought up a catholic, where Jesus still hangs on the cross, where we have to do things to be saved, then probarly go to purgatory after death. There is only one true gospel. The catholic gospel is another gospel. Praise God for the reformation, when the light of the gospel shone forth.Ecumenism is not of God, but will be helped along by the movie. I don't understand why anyone would want to embrace the catholic view of salvation, to take us back to the dark ages. We must be discerning.
Great Sermon! Probably the greatest tribute I have heard to Al Martin's preaching, since the comment attributed to John Murray, was from an interview of Derek Thomas {John E. Richards Professor of Systematic and Practical Theology_R.T.S.} by 9 Marks Ministries.

Speaking of hearing Lloyd-Jones' preaching and of Al Martin on another occasion he said,"I remember some periods in a sermon I thought I was going to die because I couldn’t breathe… you sort of held your breathe because
of the tension of what was being done, what was being said… I remember
hearing Al Martin preach on John 3, “you must be born again” and I thought
I was going to die because of the sheer power of the logic, you couldn’t understand how anyone was going to still be unsaved at the end of the sermon."
Praise God, a sermon needed for this nation This series, was certainly led of God for our Nation that is soundly lethargic and ready to enter into a sleep without God.
