Sermon:
What's in A Name?
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ In the Name of Jesus ”
In the sermon, Jerry asserts that if we take the name of Jesus, we must be like Him. We must spend time daily in the Bible, in prayer, trusting God, praying against temptation, picking up our cross, living in obedience to God, loving our neighbor, etc. Bearing the name “Christian” means we have a responsibility to bear the image of Christ. Scripture mentioned includes Proverbs 22: 1; Genesis 49:8; Genesis, 49:19; Genesis 49: 27; Genesis, 1: 3–5; Genesis 1: 26–28; Genesis 2:18–23; Genesis 3:20; Genesis 3:15; Genesis 32:30; Isaiah 43:1; Romans 11; Romans 9; Galatians 3:28–29; Matthew 1:20–23; Isaiah 43:1; Philippians 2:5–11; John 6: etc.

Sermon:
How Will You Die?
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ Head Over Heart ”
There are many examples in the Bible of men of faith believing in God‘s promises and facing death with courage. Jacob remained in leadership even as he lay dying. Job referenced his death, decomposition, and resurrection in a new body; he says he will be in God‘s presence. Abraham only owned one piece of property in his life – a tomb. It was both in preparation of death at some point and also an act of faith in God‘s promise to give His people the land of Canaan. Scary things like death, Jerry says, burrow into our hearts, and then our hearts rule our heads . Jacob did not let his heart rule his head. Jesus did not let His heart rule His head. He stayed faithful. He knew the Father would be with Him as He walked through the valley of the shadow of death. Jesus went before us to prepare a place for us. Our knowledge of and faith in God‘s promises can help us when our time comes. God will not leave us, so we can live and die by faith. Some scriptures covered are Genesis 49:29–33; etc.

Remember Me
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ Remember ”
Communion is a time of remembrance. It is a time to remember Jesus and His promises. If you know Christ, you know God. Jesus wants us with Him where He is. God is just and Justifier. Remember what He did for His people. Remember what He is doing now. He forgives sin. He makes us spiritually well. He restores us and renews us and will make us what He intended us to be in Him. God knows we are dust. We are not enough to come to the table, but Christ is. He will not remember our sins. He provides for us spiritually and physically. He gives us our faith and maintains it; it is His work in us. Jesus died on the cross for the joy set before Him. He is our eternal high Priest and lives to make intercession for us. The elect, get mercy, the non-elect get justice (because the wages of sin is death), and no one gets injustice. Jesus went to heaven to prepare a place for us, and He keeps His promises. REMEMBER. Scriptures covered are: Luke 22: 19–20; John 17:6; John 17:24; Romans 3:26; Genesis 3:15; etc.

Sermon:
What Did Jesus Do?
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ Temptation Narrative ”
Satan wanted to use Jesus’s diety to overcome His humanity. If Jesus had not suffered as we suffer, He could not have represented us. But He became one of us while still retaining 100% of his diety. Jesus, the last Adam, succeeded where the first Adam failed. Satan tried to offer Jesus an easy way out, but we would have all died. Jesus took the hard path so that we could live. He fought temptation with the armor of God. Scriptures covered include: Luke 3; Romans 5:12–21; Luke 4: 1-2; Luke 11: 14–22; Isaiah 53:12; Luke 4:3–4; 2 Corinthians 1:6; Romans 2:17; Philippians 2:6–9; Luke 4:4; Luke 4:5–6; 1 John 5:19; Ephesians 2: 1-3; revelations, 15; Psalm 2:7–9; Matthew 28 ; Luke 4:8; Luke 4:9–12; Luke 24:25–27; Luke 24:45–47: etc.

Hell On Earth
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ His Hell is Our Heaven ”
In this sermon, Jerry put a fine point on the realities of hell. It is truth given in love and not fire and brimstone. The message is not hopeless, because Christ is at the center of it. Jerry highlights the magnificent wonder that Christ bore our iniquities. As Jerry exclaims, “Oh, the love that pinned Christ to the cross!“ Jesus was forsaken that we might never be. His hell on earth is our heaven up above. Rejoice! Scriptures covered include Matthew 27:45–46; Psalm 139:7–8; Revelation 14:10; Isaiah 1:4 2 Corinthians 5:19; Revelation 7:9; 1 Corinthians 15:26; Isaiah 53; Isaiah 51:17; Luke 23:46, etc.

Sermon:
I Thirst
Jerry Dodson
1

“ His Thirst Our Living Water ”
In this sermon, Jerry touches upon the physical torment that Jesus, in His mortal form, suffered on the cross. He knows what it feels like to be human and is still interceding for us in heaven as He sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. This is a beautiful, poetic sermon, and follows on the heels of Jerry’s preceding sermon about Jesus being the last, permanent, perfect sacrifice for His people. Scriptures covered are John 19:30; Isaiah 53; Psalm 22:14–15; Psalm 22:1; Luke 16; Psalm 22:6–8; Matthew 27:39–44; Romans 5:6–8; Luke 12:49–50; John 17:4–5; Psalm 63:1-4; 1 Corinthians 10:4; John 4, etc.

Sermon:
It Is Finished
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ A Done Deal ”
This sermon is a reiteration of Christ’s work on the cross, His resurrection, and our salvation because of Him. It is a reminder of the perfect and complete Sacrifice that fulfills the demand for just compensation on behalf of believers once and for all, FOREVER, with no need for any further payment. “There is therefore, now, no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Jerry also provides an important distinction and defense regarding the foreknowledge of God spoken of in Romans 8:28–29. It is not about God, looking through the tunnels of time as so many think, but rather about having a relationship with God. This is a really great sermon. Don’t miss it! Some scriptures covered are John 19:30; 2 Corinthians 1:20; Matthew 17; Luke 2; Luke 18; Psalm 32; Romans 4:24–25; Romans 3:23; Romans 8:7–8; Ephesians 2: 1–3 and 8–10; Romans 8:28–29; James 2:10, Etc.

Election and Reprobation
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ The Chosen ”
This sermon of Jerry’s is a good defense of election for the purpose of conveying the truth of God’s Word and giving God 100% of the glory. It is important to remember that, by nature, we are children of wrath, so no one ever receives injustice under election. Some of the Scriptures covered are 2 Peter 3:16; Amos 3: 1-2; Hebrews 12:5–8; Ephesians 2; Genesis 18:25; Romans 5; Ephesians 1:11–12; James 1:13–15; Acts 2:22–23; 1 Timothy 5:21; Matthew 45:21; Romans 9:6–13; Romans 9:9–11 Joshua 11:18–20; 1 Peter 3:29; Proverbs 16:4; Matthew 7:21–23; Amos 3; Romans 8:28; John 6:37–44; Deuteronomy 7:6–8; Galatians 3:16; etc.

The One And The Many
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ One Because of One ”
This sermon explores the concept of a diverse world population being one in Christ. It Is a closer look at Ephesians 4 that also reminds us that each of us has a spiritual gift given to us by Christ. We can be assured that we have a purpose and are not Interchangeable. The 3 persons of the Trinity are discussed. The Father elects, the Son redeems, the Holy Spirit regenerates. We are reminded that we are slaves to whatever we serve, so we should be slaves of Christ. Verses covered: Ephesians 4, Revelations 7:9–10, 1 Corinthians 12:14, Psalm 8, 2 Corinthians 3:6, Acts 2:33, John 16:5–7, Ephesians 3:1, Ephesians 2:19–21, 1 Timothy 5:17, etc. We found ourselves in tears over this one, because we are grateful and blessed to have had such a fantastic pastor, because we still have him through these recordings, because we are coming up on the 6th anniversary of his death, because we are awed that he is with Christ in heaven, and because we miss him.

“ Great Sermon! ”
Although this is an Easter sermon, and Jerry discusses some of the proofs pointing to who Jesus is (such as the earthquake and resurrection of saints as a foretaste on the day of Jesus’ earthly death), he also visits the topic of limited atonement, which is sometimes difficult for people who don’t believe in reformed theology to understand. He quotes Romans 6:23 and explains that because the wages of sin is death, we all deserve death. Those who go to heaven receive grace. Those who go to hell receive justice. No one receives injustice. There are no victims. Jerry also discusses how God‘s people were saved before the coming of the Messiah because they looked forward to His coming and so, as with us, they were saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Scripture covered in this sermon includes: Matthew 27: 50–53, 1 Corinthians 15:54, 1 Timothy 2:5 and 6, Matthew 28:2, 1 Corinthians 15:55, Colossians 2:13–15, Romans 9:22–24, Daniel 4:35, Genesis 18:25, Revelations 7:9, Genesis 15 and 17, Romans 6:23, Hebrews 11, John 8:56, Romans 3:20, James 2:10, etc.

Sermon:
Wield Your Weapon
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ Son, Fall on Your Sword ”
In his sermon, Jerry talks about the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. He makes the point that this Sword is both defensive and offensive & sites various Scriptures that support this notion. For me, the concept of falling on this Sword daily is novel, eye-opening, and satisfying. I cannot express how equally grateful I am to have sat under the teaching of Jerry Dodson and to remain under his tutelage via these recordings. On Sundays I remember often seeing him turn his little red recorder on and off, not realizing how important and precious that small act would be to me, and, I dare say, many others. In this sermon in particular, when Jerry begins to speak of Isaiah 53, Jerry is overcome with emotion when confronting Jesus' passion for the Father and for us. Do yourself a favor and do not miss this sermon. Scriptures covered are: Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12; John 5:39–40; 2 Corinthians 10:4; Ephesians 2:8–10; 1 Corinthians 9:24–27; Matthew 23:27–28, Colossians 3:5–8; Psalm 1:1–3; Psalm 19:9, 11, 16, 27-28, 98,105; Hebrews 12:5–11; Luke: 15; Galatians 5:22–23; Psalm 139:23–24 James 3:17–18; 1 John 2:1; 1 John 1:9; John 6:37–40; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Isaiah 53; John 3:5–6; 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, etc.

“ Know Your Weapon ”
This sermon is part 2 of Jerry’s series on the Word of God. Scriptures covered are: Psalm 119:11, Galatians 5:13, Galatians 5:19–21, Romans 14:17, 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, 2 Timothy 3:16–17, Ephesians 5:18–19, John 1:1, Psalm 33:6, Psalm 107:19–20, Psalm 147:15–19, Romans 9:17, John 14:16–17, Hebrews 4:12, Romans 10:17, Romans 1:16–17, etc. Reading the Word of God every day and committing It to memory, helps us to be ready for the disappointments of life. It also helps us to help others who are experiencing the same disappointments. Being reminded each day of the truth in God’s Word helps to combat Satan’s lies. It’s encouraging and offers peace. All the knowledge we have about God comes from the Bible; we need to read It every single day, as there is a spiritual battle that never stops raging around us. The Word is our weapon of protection. We need to know It like the back of our hand and hide It in our hearts, so it is always at the ready. The W of God is Jesus, God‘s precepts, and God‘s power. We don’t ever not need it.

“ Word! ”
Dodson’s sermon is a needed refresher on the importance and richness of revisiting God’s Word on a daily basis. Cited Scriptures are: Ephesians 6:17, Psalm 119:11, Galatians 5:13 & 16-17 & 19-21, Romans 14:17 & 22–24, 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, 2 Timothy 3:16–17, Ephesians 5:18–19, John 1:1, John 1:14, Ephesians 6:17, Psalm 33:6, Psalm 107:19–20, Psalm 147:15–19, Romans 9:17, Matthew 4, John 14:16-17, Hebrews 14:12, Romans 1:16–17, etc. Studying God’s word helps us: to battle temptation and not sin against Him, to use our freedom to choose spiritual good, to have assurance that our sins have been forgiven (so that our accuser cannot gain a foothold in our lives), to help others, to grieve like those with a hope, to gain wisdom, to glorify God, to know God, to deepen our appreciation for God, etc. Can’t wait for Part II!

Sermon:
Pulpit Crimes
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ Book ‘em ”
In this sermon, Jerry warns of the mishandling of God’s Word by some preachers who rob people of the gospel. He says there are two major pulpit crimes: 1. Turning the Bible into therapy and 2. Turning the Bible into a book about you and your life, instead of what it really is: THE BOOK ABOUT JESUS. As is typical for Dodson, a great deal of the sermon deals with election, which was important to Jerry, because it gives 100% of the glory God. Some scriptures covered are: Matthew 22:36–40, John 14:15, Luke 10:25–28, Jeremiah 17:9, 8:7–8, Romans 5:18–19, Psalm 51:5, Luke 10:25–28, Hebrews 9:27, 1 Corinthians 15:22, Ephesians 1:3-4, 7, and 11–14, 2 Corinthians 5:17, Matthew 13:11, Matthew 11:25 & 27, Matthew 25:31-46, John 10, Romans 9:18–19, John 5:39–40, Luke 24:25–27, John 8:39–40, John 8:56, Ephesians 2:8–9, etc. Preaching that soothes but does not highlight our desperate need for Jesus, Who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life is a massive pulpit crime. Be vigilant and don’t let it happen to you.

History, Mystery, Eternity
Jerry Dodson
1
comment
“ Promise & Response ”
In this sermon, Jerry highlights verses such as Ephesians 3:7–13, 2: 7–10, Romans 2:4–5, Colossians 2:2, 2 Corinthians 4:17–18, Romans 11:33–36, etc. We have grace in Christ. That grace brings responsibility. Every day we have the opportunity to choose, by the power of God, to minister to others, and to be trophies of grace who make God known to others through our actions. May we progress towards full, free, immediate, and joyful obedience, which expresses love in our relationship with God, and is also seen in the eyes of not only men but also unseen beings who, the Bible says, are watching us. We can be encouraged by Paul who regarded his terrible sufferings as light and momentary afflictions—such was his faith. We should also remember that eternity past determined eternity future, and, like Paul, not get bogged down by our past sins…because we have the full assurance of Christ, and all the riches that are Him. Amen.

“ God’s Sovereignty is God’s Glory ”
In this sermon, Jerry points to scriptures such as: Ephesians 2, Romans 5:18–19, Matthew 27:3–4, Acts 2:36–38 and 41, Romans 9:10–13, Romans 9:14–18, Exodus 9:15–16, Genesis 15, Exodus 4:21, Romans 1:18–21, Exodus 9:27–28 and 34, Daniel 4:35, Romans 9: 18-24, Ephesians 1:11–12, 1 Thessalonians 5:9, 1 Peter 2:7–8, and Jude 4 to illustrate God’s sovereignty in all things including our salvation. God does not take innocent creatures, make them wicked, and then condemn them. The Bible says we are all by nature children of wrath. As such, we deserve justice. ALL deserve hell. That any (the elect) receive mercy is the gift of God. No one receives injustice. God chooses to save some. He could have saved none. He has the right to do whatever He wants with all that He has made. He is the potter, and we are the clay. He suffered terribly so those He chose will have eternal life and fellowship with Him. That mercy is 100% Him. GLORY! Our sin is 100% us. He is good; His love endures forever.

Standing on the Promises
Jerry Dodson

“ Incredibly Powerful ”
This is one of my favorite sermons of Jerry’s that is jam packed with Bible Scriptures and needs to be heard again and again. He highlights the awe-inspiring, peace-inducing promises of God as he focuses on the 3rd piece of Christian armor: our shoes, the Gospel of peace. And we can have this peace because of God’s promises. Focus on them when the devil starts making you question your “save-ability.” The Bible promises God holds His children in His hand and we will not be taken out of it. Nothing can separate us from His love. Be bold in claiming His promises in the great name of Jesus and delight in His peace that reassures and comforts you!
