This morning we will return to our study of the gospel of John. Our last lesson took us through verses 22-27 in chapter 6 where John wrote the account of a large crowd of Jews looking for Jesus because during the previous day, they had listened to His teaching, and afterward, He miraculously fed this crowd of 5000 men, plus women and children, from a young boy's lunch of 5 barley loaves and 2 small fish.
Believing Jesus was the Prophet they were expecting, they wanted to make Him king, even if they had to capture Him to do so. Jesus was not willing to be made king by force, so he withdrew back to the mountain where He had taught and fed the crowd, to be by Himself and to pray.
