Call To Worship
Sovereign grace o'er sin abounding
Ransomed souls the tidings swell
Tis a deep that knows no sounding
Who its breadth or length can tell?
On its glories, on its glories
Let my soul forever dwell.
What from Christ my soul can sever
Bound by everlasting bands?
Once in Him, in Him forever
Thus th' eternal covenant stands
None shall pluck me, none shall pluck me
From the strength of Israel's hands.
Heirs of God, joint heirs with Jesus
Long ere time its race begun
To His name eternal praises
Oh! What wonders love hath done!
One with Jesus, one with Jesus,
By eternal union one.
On such love, my soul still ponder,
Love so great, so rich, so free
Say, whilst lost in holy wonder
Why, O Lord, such love to me?
Hallelujah, Hallelujah,
Grace shall reign eternally!
(Tune: "Come Ye Sinners")

"Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east."
Note the word, "went." It means 'lifted up his feet.'. After Jacob received the promise of God to keep him in all places and the promise that God would bring him back to the Promised Land, Jacob rose up with a snap in his step.
Do the promises of God have this effect on me and you? How do they affect us? Can we recall any of the promises of God that lift up the soul in time of trouble? Do we find in them the comfort and support that they are designed to give in times of trouble? If so give thanks to the Lord for his promises; if not, seek the Lord for help. Christ is the one who makes all promises effectual; apart from Him, they do not work. "All the promises of God in Him are yea and amen." Know this: the strength of any promise rests on the one who gives it. Therefore if we are to receive strength and comfort from the promises of God, we must know Him. Let us get to know Him and the promises of God will put a snap in our step.
HELL IS FULL OF ASSUMPTIONS
Matthew 7:21-23 ¶ "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
It is evident that we assume too much, and in most cases, it is not that costly. However, in the spiritual realm, it is deadly. Remember when Mary and Joseph supposed him to have been in the company and he was not? Job said, "They were confounded because they had hoped; they came thither, and were ashamed." (Job 6:20) They assumed because they had made a profession and were baptized like the preacher said that all was well; they were busy. Some were preachers, while others were workers in the church. They were busy, busy, busy- but lost. The only hope a sinner has is Jesus Christ himself. When the Leper came to our Lord for healing, he did not mention his past works, he did not look to a righteousness wrought out, and he did not look to blood that was shed. He was looking to the Son of God to save him from himself. Christ is our righteousness, and his blood was shed to wash away our sins. However, never put the means before Him who is our righteousness, and whose blood is our cleansing. Peter said it best in Matthew 14:30: "But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me." No one will be confounded who looks to Christ and Christ alone. Never assume that you are saved because you are looking to a righteousness produced or blood that was shed. Ttrust Him who is all and in all. Remember Colossians 2:10: "And ye are complete in him..."
