Call to Worship
From all who dwell below the skies
Let our Creator's praise arise
Let the Redeemer's name be sun g
Through every land, by every tongue.
Eternal are Thy mercies, Lord
Eternal truth attends Thy word
Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore
‘Til suns shall rise and set no more.
O render thanks to God above
The fountain of eternal love
Whose mercies firm through ages past
Have stood, and shall forever last.
Extend to me that favor, Lord
Thou to Thy chosen doth afford
When you return to set them free
Let Thy salvation visit me!
(Tune: "Doxology")

THE SACRIFICE OF HIMSELF by Pastor Henry Mahan
"He appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself."(Hebrews 9:26)
When the Spirit of God is pleased to enlighten our understanding our self-righteousness melts away like the morning frost before the burning rays of the sun. We become painfully aware of our sins: "O the exceeding sinfulness of sin; my sins are ever before me," we cry with the fathers. What is to be done about my sins? It is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. It is evident that no man is justified by the law. The waters of baptism left Simon Magus in the gall of bitterness. Judas' confession that he had betrayed innocent blood only led him to suicide. The wonderful works professed in Matthew 7 were called "works of iniquity" by Christ. "How can he be clean that is born of a woman?" Here is the answer: "He (the Lord of Glory) appeared (came to earth in the flesh) to put away sin (all sin-past, present, and future) by the sacrifice of Himself."
"For Christ also hath suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit" (Peter 3:18).
HE WILL BE A WILD MAN
Pastor John Chapman
Genesis 16:11-12 "And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction. And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren."
Sarah and Abraham tried, by the energy of the flesh, to move along the promise of God concerning the promised seed. Ten years had gone by; Sarah felt that they had waited long enough, and that now it was time to do their part. Sarah came up with this bright idea of Abraham going into Hagar and producing the heir. They produced their part, a wild man, a man who was against everyone and whom everyone else was against.
This is all that flesh can produce; even the children of believers are nothing but wild boys and girls by nature. Remember, Flesh is flesh and cannot produce anything else. However, the promised seed, Christ, was not begotten by the flesh. At no time did flesh contribute to the incarnation of the promised seed. The human nature of Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit. Even Mary contributed nothing to His nature; her womb was borrowed like the tomb our Lord was buried in was borrowed. Only God can produce a Son without sin, who is holy, harmless, undefiled and separate from sinners. All others produce wild men.
HELPERS OF YOUR FAITH AND JOY
Pastor Tom Harding.
"Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand." (2Cor. 1:24)
True ministers of the gospel can neither give faith or joy nor sustain it; faith is the gift of God (Eph. 2:8-9). True ministers of the gospel do not seek dominion over a believer's faith.
However, in preaching the gospel of Christ, when blessed by the power of the Holy Spirit, believers do grow in faith and in the knowledge of Christ through the preaching of the truth (1Peter 2:2; 2Peter 3:18).
We are but helpers, or means and instruments, which God has ordained to preach the gospel and to instruct believers in the Word that they might grow in faith (Rom. 10:17) and to cause His people to rejoice in Christ Jesus; faith and joy go and grow together (Rom. 5:1-2). As we grow in faith we also grow in joy (Phil.3:3). My prayer is this, Lord enable me to be a faithful helper of your faith and joy in Christ, not a hindrance.
