Call to Worship
Look upon me, Lord I pray Thee,
Let Thy spirit dwell in mine;
Thou hast sought me, Thou hast bought me;
Take my heart and make it Thine.
Nought I ask for, nought I strive for,
But Thy grace so rich and free;
This Thou givest by the Saviour;
He hath all things who hath Thee.
Precious is the name of Jesus,
Who can half its worth unfold?
Far beyond angelic praises,
Sweetly sung to harps of gold.
Guide me, Oh Thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty;
Hold me with Thy powerful hand.
(Tune: Jesus Calls Us)
Psalm 37:1 "Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity."

HE SHALL LOSE NOTHING
If Jesus Christ died for the sins of all men, yet some men perish for whom He died, then God the Father committed the greatest act of sin ever. Even Satan could not match that one. Instead of the sufferings and death of Christ being an act of infinite wisdom and love, it would be an act of unmatched stupidity and cruel mockery. However, Jesus Christ is the wisdom of God and the power of God to save guilty sinners. Every one for whom He suffered and died and rose again to save shall be saved. John 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
While my brother was praying for me I was wishing that I had the tongues of men and of angels with which to set forth my theme to-night; and yet I shall retract my wish, for the subject is such, that if my words were the commonest that could be found - yea, if they were ungrammatical, and if they were put together most uncouthly, it would little matter; for a failure awaits me in any case: the subject far transcends all utterance. Jesus is such a one that no oratory can ever reach the height of his glory, and the simplest words are best suited to a subject so sublime. Fine words would be but tawdry things to hang beside the unspeakably glorious Lord. I can say no more than that he is great. -C.H. Spurgeon
SIN IS NOT IN THINGS
Pastor John Chapman
While sitting on the steps of the church building, eating crackers with my grandson last Friday, a man and his wife drove up. The man asked me if we used the King James version of the Bible, and I replied, "Yes." He then asked me if I went to restaurants to eat that served alcohol. Again, I replied, "Yes." He threw up his hand in disgust and said, "I want nothing to do with alcohol," and sped off. My first thought was, "the wicked flee when no man pursueth."
Sin is not in bottles; it is not in drugs. In short, sin is not in things. Sin is a nature that is in every one of us; we are sin. When Adam fell all his posterity fell in him, now when his children are born they are born with a sinful nature and because of this sinful nature men misunderstand the nature of sin; they believe if they do not do certain things or drink certain drinks they have not sinned... or at least not enough to be condemned. Not until a man is born of God does he see that sin is a nature and not things that he may or may not do. Paul cried, "O wretched man that I am..." not because of where he ate lunch but because of what he was by nature. A man can be locked up in a room by himself and it would still be one of the most sinful places on earth because of his presence; we are the sin problem, not things. Therefore we need one who can save us from our sinful selves, one who can make us righteous before God, and that One is Jesus Christ. I am not interested in being saved from things, but from my sinful self.
