CALL TO WORSHIP

Glory to God the Father’s name,

Who, from our sinful race,

Chose out His people to proclaim

The honors of His grace.

Glory to God the Son be paid,

Who dwelt in human clay;

And to redeem us from our sins,

Gave His own life away.

Glory to God the Spirit give,

From whose Almighty power,

Our souls their heavenly birth derive,

And bless this happy hour.

Glory to God Who reigns above,

Eternal Three in One;

Who by the wonders of His love

Has made His mercies known.

(Tune: O For A Thousand Tongues p. 46)

What is Vital Godliness?

What is vital godliness? To make myself good and holy? To make myself religious and serious, and a decidedly pious person? Such husks may satisfy swine—but they will not satisfy a living soul. What must I do, then, to make myself better? Nothing! Can I, by any exertion of creature-will or power, change my Ethiopian skin, or wash out my leopard spots? To feel day by day less and less in self—to become more foolish, weak, and powerless—and yet, as poor, needy, weak, and helpless, to be drawing supplies out of Christ's fullness, and to live a life of faith on the Son of God—to know something of this, is to know something of what true religion is. And to know a little of this, will make a man more outwardly and inwardly holy, than all the good works or pious resolutions in the world.

J.C Philpot

“But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.” - I Corinthians 1:24

Many religionists perceive the power of God to be something given to them so that they can accomplish great things, when, in fact, the power of God is Christ, which power is exercised for us, but not by us.

Joe Terrell

FEAR NOT

God’s people have so many needless fears. We fear punishment for our sins even though Christ our Savior has already been punished for our sins as our Substitute. We fear being left alone even though our God has promised to never leave nor forsake us. We fear the events of this life even though our God is sovereignly controlling all of them. This is why God tells His people to fear not so often in His Word. Our God tells His people there are several things we do not need to fear.

No believer needs to fear lack of protection from our sin that is in us, or the sin that is in the world around us. “After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.” (Gen. 15:1)

No believer needs to fear what our enemies will do to us, because our God has promised to fight the enemies of His people. “And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you. (Deut. 20:3-4)

No believer needs to fear that the Lord will stop being merciful to us because our God will always be merciful to His people for Christ’s sake, not because of anything found in us. That is pictured in II Samuel 9:7 “And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.”

No believer needs to fear that the Lord will send us something that we cannot handle, because the Lord, who has all power, is our helper. “For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.”(Isaiah 41:13)

No believer has any reason to fear what will happen to us in this life or in the life to come. “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32)

Pastor

We would do well to remember that very soon, the joys of this life that we chase after so hard and the sorrows of this life that we try so hard to avoid, will both be equally unimportant to us.

Pastor
