CALL TO WORSHIP
Stricken, smitten, and afflicted
See Him dying on the tree;
‘Tis the Christ by man rejected!
Yes, my soul, rejoice, ‘tis He!
‘Tis the long expected Prophet,
David’s son, yet David’s Lord;
Proof I see sufficient of it,
‘tis the true and faithful Word.
Here we have a sure foundation,
Here’s the refuge of the lost,
Christ, the Rock of our salvation,
His the name of which we boast.
Lamb of God for sinners wounded,
Sacrificed to cancel guilt;
None shall ever be confounded
Who on Thee their hopes have built.

One of the paradoxes of salvation in Christ is that it is both vast and narrow at the same time. There is vastness in salvation by Christ. His blood cleanses the deepest stain of sin. Christ saves the most vile and most guilty sinners. Christ the Good Shepherd finds and brings home the lost sheep who is furthest away from Him. Christ saves sinners from every nation, every race, every language, and every walk of life. The obedience of Christ is vast enough to cover every requirement of God’s law. Yet at the same time, salvation in Christ is so narrow that only helpless, hopeless sinners, who bring no merit or deeds of their own, may enter.

The Saints of God
“To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 1:7).
Who are these saints to whom Paul is writing? Every believer who is saved by the grace of God is a saint. We are totally sanctified in the Lord Jesus Christ, by His effectual blood sacrifice for us (Heb. 10:14; 1 Peter 1:18-20). The Lord Jesus Christ is made to the believer sanctification; He is our total sanctification before God the Father (1 Cor. 1:30). There is no such thing as progressive sanctification. We grow in grace and in the knowledge of Christ (2 Peter 3:18) but our wicked flesh is never sanctified (Rom. 7:18-24). Sanctification is the work of the Holy Spirit making us new creatures in Christ, giving unto us a new holy nature in the new birth (2 Cor. 5:17, 2 Peter 1:4). That which is of the flesh is just that flesh but that which is born of the Spirit is spirit (John 3:6; Eph. 4:24).
Pastor Tom Harding
Sinner, do you doubt the mercy of Christ to save Sinners? Would he save a sinner like you and heal you of your soul infirmities? Do you wonder if he’s willing? Do you wonder if he’s able? The scribes and Pharisees didn’t doubt. When they saw the man with a withered right hand in their synagogue, and Christ walked in, they “watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day” (Luke 6:7). They knew Christ’s willingness and ability to heal sinners, sick with disease. So, they “watched him” because they knew he delights to show mercy to the sin-sick sinner. They “watched him” for evil purposes. But you that are suffering because of your sin. You that are desperate for his forgiveness. You that need his grace and salvation. Doubt no longer. “I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” (Luke 11:9-10).
