CALL TO WORSHIP
Come, humble sinner, in whose breast, a thousand thoughts revolve
Come with your guilt and fear oppressed, and make this last resolve.
I’ll go to Jesus though my sin, hath like a mountain rose
I know His courts I’ll enter in, whatever may oppose.
Prostrate I’ll lie before His throne, and there my guilt confess
I’ll tell Him I’m a wretch undone, without His sovereign grace.
Perhaps He will admit my plea, perhaps will hear my prayer
But if I perish, I will pray, and perish only there.
I can but perish if I go, I am resolved to try
For if I stay away, I know, I must forever die.
But if I die with mercy sought, when I the King have tried
This were to die, delightful thought, as never sinner died!

CHRIST THE SINNER’S SUBSTITUTE
The more I see of Christ the sinner’s substitute, the more I see of God’s grace and God’s wisdom. What grace that God would send His holy Son to be the substitute for a sinner like me! Oh the depths of grace that God would make His Son to be what I am and suffer everything that I deserve so that I could be made what He is and enjoy everything that He earned as my representative! Oh the wisdom of God seen in Christ the sinner’s substitute who satisfied God’s justice and made it right for God to show mercy to a sinner like me! Christ came to obey the law and suffer as the sacrifice for sin that God might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus (Rom 3:26). Thank God for Christ the sinner’s substitute!

It is good to live near the grave for it is in the light of the grave that we see this life as it really is – vanity. No matter the kind of life a person lives, it comes to the grave. The grave also teaches us that our hope must lie beyond what is found in this world: If everything here is vanity, then things of value and substance must be found elsewhere. The grave also teaches us how to live this present life: We must live our lives in the pursuit of Christ and the things concerning Him. Even as we enjoy the transient things of this life, let our eyes be fixed on things above, where Christ is.
For the one whose heart is in this world, the grave puts an end to all he hoped for. But for the one whose heart is set on the world beyond the grave, the grave is merely the portal to the realization of all he has hoped for.

For some of you, this is a time of great darkness; but in the gospel there is light for the present, yes, joy even for this moment in which you seem to be driven almost to despair. When I preach about the water of life so freely given by God, I mean just this – that all you need between here and heaven, Christ is ready to give you. All that your soul can possibly require to enable you to stand in the presence of God without fear and dwell in the bosom of God forever, made perfectly like to God by His grace – all that is in the gospel for you; and we are bidden to invite you to partake of it in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

HIS BLOOD ALONE!
The vital thing to understand about the blood of Christ is this: IT IS ENOUGH! Nothing else is needed to accomplish the salvation of all for whom His blood was shed. Not His blood plus my works; not His blood plus my “decision;” not His blood plus the ordinances; not His blood plus church membership; not even His blood plus my faith - His blood purchased my faith. HIS BLOOD ALONE paid the price required by his justice, and His blood alone can make a sinner clean. “By His own blood He entered in once into the holy place, having OBTAINED (not made possible) eternal redemption for us” (Heb. 9:12).
