CALL TO WORSHIP
‘Tis not by works of righteousness
Which our own hands have done
But we are saved by sovereign grace
Abounding through the Son.
‘Tis from the mercy of our God
That all our hopes begin
‘Tis by the water and the blood
Our souls are washed from sin.
‘Tis through the merits of His death
Who hung upon the tree
The Spirit is sent down to breathe
On such dry bones as we.
Raised from the dead, we live anew
And justified by grace
We shall appear in glory too
And see our Father’s face.
(Tune: “O God Our Help” p. 10)

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Barb Collins whose mother, Mildred Barker, passed away last week.
I don’t know much else, but through God’s amazing grace I do know Him. I know His sovereign, redeeming, justifying love in Christ Jesus to poor, lost sinners. And I know this: the older I get, the less concern I have whether I learn anything that isn’t related to Christ and His redeeming love and grace. I long to be like the apostle Paul who said, “I count all things but loss for the excellency (surpassingness) of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord.”

The heart of one regenerated by grace and made sensitive to the presence of sin in his flesh will be expressed by the words of David, “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions” (Ps. 51:1). The believer knows that there is no area of his life, even in those areas most precious to him…hearing the Gospel preached, reading from the Holy Scriptures, or even seeking Him in prayer, which is exempt from the need of the merciful application of Christ’s blood for the purifying of the defilement of sin.

FABLES OR TRUTH?
“And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” (II Timothy 4:4)
One clear evidence of man’s dead nature is that the natural man would rather believe a lie when the truth is better.
Man would rather believe Christ died for everyone because He was trying to save everyone, but some people for whom Christ died could still perish in hell if they don’t do their part. That is a fable. Christ died only for His sheep (John 10:15). However, the truth is better. Christ died for God’s elect and every last one of them shall be saved because Christ died to put away their sin. (John 10:27-28).
Man would rather believe that salvation is received by man’s decision to accept Jesus as our personal Savior. That is a fable. The natural man cannot believe on Christ because our dead spiritual nature is incapable of loving or believing on Christ. (John 6:44). However, the truth is much better. God’s preachers don’t have to beg anyone to do anything. God the Holy Spirit will make His people able and willing to trust Christ when He moves in power through the preaching of Christ (Psalm 110:3). Christ will call His sheep to Himself through the preaching of the gospel and those sheep will all come to Christ, trusting Him (John 10:3, John 10:27).
Man would rather believe that a person can be saved today and lost tomorrow, depending on their conduct. That is a fable. Man would rather trust in his own works than trust in Christ when the truth is much better. The salvation of God’s elect is eternal so it can never be lost. Believers are not kept because of their good conduct. Believers are kept by the power of God’s grace and love for them (I Peter 1:4-5).
Give me the truth that enables me to rest in Christ!

The robe that God provided Adam was an effectual covering, because He provided it. The robe that Adam provided for himself was ineffectual, because he provided it. Now Adam clothed with God’s coat was a safer person outside the fence of paradise then he had been inside. Why? For within, his dependence was upon himself, whereas outside his life dependence was on another, even the promised Saviour.
