This has not just been online, either. Some people I know are alumni and supporters of a school which once was a notorious holdout of segregationism: BJU. I feel like I'm trying to fight a battle alongside the Three Stooges in my trench, who shoot me and themselves in the feet.
I don't know the answer Neil. Influence of secularism, maybe? I kind of take a hardline approach to racism. It saves me at least some stress in trying to reason with its defender/ promoters. It's an evil thing, period. It needs to be rooted out. But the hardline needs to be applied also to the hidden versions. Yes, white nationalism is racist. Black Lives Matter is racist, too. White guilt is racist, and Black Pride is racist. Telling black folk they cannot succeed without government ordered favor crutches is telling them they are inferior based on their color. Racist. Telling white folk they should pay "reparations" based on their color is racist. It's all so much garbage. Groupthink. Why don't we see people as individuals instead of part of color groups?
I consider myself fortunate that I have neither Yankee nor Confederate heritage. As a first generation American, its easier to avoid the emotional connection to pride of past glories of victories or defeats, or to self-defined righteous causes. That plus a strong desire to learn American history as history, not horn-tooting. But I can without caution say this- the South wasn't all wrong, and the North wasn't all right.

It's hard to identify with the whole world, at least for me, John. I have to be more specific in prayer. The whole world is beyond my ability. We in the USA should pray as Abraham did when he asked God if he would destroy a whole city if there were even 10 righteous there, and was told it would not be destroyed if there were 10. There are probably more than 10 believers here. God save us, that would be blessing. God Bless America is a slogan that is a now a joke. He's not going to look fondly upon a nation that kills its young and it's old. Yet God is compassionate even when we are not. We should remember Ninevah, and not be like Jonah.

How big-hearted of you, Jim. But it's not up to the Supreme Court due to authority limits. There is no balance to be sought between liberty and the no longer existing (if it ever did) "public health crisis". It's up to the people how safe they want to be. It's up to the people how much risk they are willing to take in order to live the life they've been granted. You have to start at the right starting point, or you will understand nothing. I took a chance and drove my car at 50 mph yesterday. I could have been killed! I could have driven at 20, just to be safe but I risked it and went faster. That's how life is, start dealing with it, or stay home listening to experts explain why breathing is bad for you.
Eventually, the dawn may come, and hopefully folks will realize it has never been about the Confederacy, nor even the badness of slavery, but about the destruction of our history, so as to make us even more open to a more corrupt present led by more corrupt red-tinted "leaders". (They aren't patient with the revisionism that has already gone on.) Cubans got rid of Batista, ended up with Castro, didn't they? What a step-up that was. They could have saved themselves some grief, had they learned from history about the nature of man played out in time.
"To consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions is a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy. Our judges are as honest as other men, and not more so. They have, with others, the same passions for party, for power, and the privilege of their corps. ...and their power is the more dangerous as they are in office for life... The constitution has erected no such single tribunal, knowing that to whatever hands confided, with the corruptions of time and party, its members would become despots." Thomas Jefferson, 1820
I wonder why those wanting Aunt Jemima's face removed aren't being called out as racists? She wasn't a white lady wearing a black face, right? But then It seems she was independently wealthy. An entrepreneur. And independent successful black people are not wanted by the left wing nuts. How are you going to keep them on the plantation if they aren't dependent on you?

It could be Mickey Mouse disguised as Goofy. No Jim, right-wingers can only dream of doing the destruction left-wingers already have done. They haven't the numbers, nor the support of the enabler media that the left-wingnuts have.
Speaking of the beloved governor of New York, my wife told something to me that needs relaying. She was meeting with her ladies prayer group recently when one of them, a nurse at a nursing home, said something quite telling. When a patient had to go to the hospital, for a dialysis for example, not only was it required they go back to the nursing home without prior testing for the virus infection, but the nursing home was not allowed to test either! Added to this, they were required to be put into the Covid wing of the nursing home, specially set aside for infected patients! Now some might think that's just stupid, but let's face it, if you want the death numbers to rise, so as to justify lockdown, and you can reduce State Medicaid spending at the same time, it might seem like a no-brainer to the corrupt left. It's no longer Covid-19 here, it's Cuomovid-19.
