Did you get a check from the government? Should you tithe on it? The answer is clear. Consider this short explanation.
During the Coronavirus lockdown of 2020, the US government is sending every qualifying American a stimulus check. (Didn’t get yours?) You should tithe off of it. In fact, you should tithe off of any government stimulus check. Here’s why.
Proverbs 3:9–10 “Honour the LORD with thy substance, And with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, And thy presses shall burst out with new wine.”
The Bible is crystal clear that we should honor God with the firstfruits of all our “increase.” It doesn’t stipulate a difference between wealth gained by working a job, gift, or inheritance. It all comes from God.
When things get tight financially, it seems harder to give, but is it?
I love the fact that God created the tithe as a percentage. We should give one penny out of a dime, one dime out of a dollar, one dollar out of ten, ten dollars out of 100, etc. The truth is we can always tithe. It seems harder to give $100,000 out of a million, but it is only in your head. It’s still 10%.
If I gave you a $100 bill, would you give me $10 back? Of course! How much more should we partner with God to do the same!
God gives you everything that you possess.
James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”
