Wonderful! When the preacher says that divorced and remarried Christian are not second class Christians, where does this take us?. Is it okay for and elder to be divorced and remarried? A pastor? A Sunday school teacher? A deacon? Does not being a second class Christian dismiss all limitations? What about "the husband of one wife" qualification for elders? Does that apply here? These are questions I am asking, not challenges. I am not taking anybody on. Does the preacher read these comments? I would like to see what he thinks. Thanks.
Great Sermon! I thank you Voddie for calling attention to the spurious claims being made by John Shelby Spong. I'm not prefacing his name with his titles. I grew up in the Episcopal church and was in the last class confirmed by Bishop Rath before Spong took over. Back then, 1979, he was just a bishop of the Newark diocese, but even then my parents could see that his ideas were unbiblical. He is primarily responsible for the hundreds of thousands of former Episcopalians like myself, who left the church when it became unbiblical I do miss the church of my youth: singing the Psalms in morning prayer, and the great amount of bible knowledge and knowledge of the Reformation I learned as a child. But I have to thank him in one sense. When he started a lot of the controversy which, as you mentioned, is even today rocking the Christian community, it forced me to examine what I really believed. It forced me to go back and really read the Bible; to see what it actually said. I realized then what God said about changing the Bible...even one word...and it made me a stronger believer as a result. Let us contend for the true faith, brothers and sisters. The church, the ecclesia, is us; the body of believers. We will not be popular, or numerous, but we will stand, and with God's help overcome until the end.
I love this sermon! I'm so glad to hear someone combat the idiocy people spout today as reasons for believing the Bible is essentially a book of symbolism, allegory and fables; that it isn't essentially true. They seem to feel that if you're educated, you can't believe Christianity, and must believe evolution. It wasn't until I was in college as a Biology major studying the cell, genetics, and physics that I realized evolution, the missing link, etc. couldn't be true. Just the probability of nucleotides alone is 1 x 10 the 80th power. Statistically impossible. And that's just one thing. The big bang theory violates the laws of thermodynamics. My point is if people REALLY studied science, they'd have to believe God created the earth. Scientists are now claiming aliens seeded the planet for this same reason. The science doesn't add up. The math does not work and they know it. So don't feel guilty about not believing the science. Even the scientists don't really believe evolution.
After many years of study, I started to believe the Bible, not only because it worked for me, but because the science is false. When people claim they believe the science, encourage them to really investigate it like it did. Where's the missing link? Encourage them to find ANY scientific proof. There isn't any.
Great Sermon! I use this message in all my Bible classes once a year, it never gets old. I had a student this year quote the entire phrase Dr. Voddie gives from memory to his classmates after having not heard it since the beginning of last school year.
Depression and Loneliness The above words are almost unmentionable in Christian circles. Thank you for dealing with the root and effects so candidly. We need to walk in love with one another, bear each other's burdens and speak truth in Love. Such subtle deviances from this simple gospel truth can lead off the Way. God bless you brother, this sermon has ministered to me from both sides of the spectrum.
Great Sermon! Praise God for Salt and Light. My soul rejoices in the Word . Continue to preach in season and out of season” Christ Jesus is Sovereign
Great Sermon! Excellent analysis of the core problems with this erroneous teaching. Love how he demonstrates that there is a universal law and that can be seen pre-Moses, Moses and in NT for all 10 commandments. Shows that particular category of law (the ceremonial and civil) is distinct from the universal - this is a major error of the NCT advocates and potential very destructive of sound teaching.
Great Sermon! Loved this sermon. I've heard other sermons on the providence of God pertaining to Genesis but they did not explain the saving of Judah as part of the providence. Also if you go a generation back you can then see why Leah was necessary as well. Even though Jacob was tricked by Laban to take Leah as his wife, it was the Providence of God to have this happen. Thank you for your insight.
Great Sermon! Thank you Steve Tattershall for your excellent statement of truth. "Historically and in the New Testament there is NO such thing as legitimate divorce ever." The pastors are guilty if they don’t warn the people. One of the most absurd and outrageous false teachings rampant in the Christian church today concerning divorce and remarriage is that when people remarry, they’re not committing adultery in the eyes of God! That is SO TOTALLY CONTRARY to what Jesus himself taught. Ezekiel 33 says...When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people. Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action, it is their own fault if they die. They heard the alarm but ignored it, so the responsibility is theirs. If they had listened to the warning, they could have saved their lives. But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their deaths. Wake up pastors and warn the people - MARRIAGE IS FOR LIFE. Divorce + Remarriage = Adultery.
Sermon rich with spiritual truth!!! What a blessing this sermon was for me. To anyone with doubt (i.e. humans in general) this is the sermon for you. It will sanctify and reassure you. Praise God for doctrinally sound preaching!
Bad sermon! I wish I could recommend this sermon but it creates utter confusion on the topic of mental illness. Most of the sermon is an expression of personal opinion which has the effect of laying heavy burdens on the back of God's people.
As the father of a son who has been diagnosed with Schizophrenia I recommend no listener make any serious decisions about their health based on this sermon.
Do more research and make sure you do a more comprehensive study of the Bible to determine what it actually says about mental illness.
