God is just. I agree with the message of the sermon: God is just and punishes sin and the sinner. Man is totally depraved and responsible for his sin. However, I do not agree with the preacher's denial of Common grace.
Christ resists temptation. Jesus is tempted by Satan through the instrumentality of Peter to renounce to go to the cross and the resurrection, but Christ conquers the temptation, because He could not sin, as the Son of God, and because of the divine "must" - God's counsel cannot fail.
Christ explains the Scriptures. Jesus explains to the two disciples on the Emmaus road the prophecies concerning the suffering, death and resurrection of the Messiah. When they understand the Scriptures and are ready to understand the events happened the last days, there are ready to the disclosure of Christ before their eyes.
Spiritual things. Tragedy of coming to Christ only for the material benefits of this world, to seek God as only a provider of things here and of resolving problems, but of of seeking salvation, eternal life and spiritual things.
Great debate John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
who is this "whosoever"?
what do calvinists say about this "whosoever"
Is this not every one who believes "whosoever" why doesnt people understand this?
But who is the "one who believeth"?
what does Lord Jesus say about this
John 6:37 "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me"
John 17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me;
John 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
What does spirit of God said?
John 11:51 he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
11:52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
Is not the scripture say the "one who believeth" are the same who belong to God the Father of Lord Jesus ( John 17:6 ) before they came to christ or before God has given them to His Son that he may save them and give them Eternal Life ( John 17:2 )
Is it not Scripture say "the one who believeth" is the one
For us to believe on our lord Jesus Christ is given in the behalf (John 11:51-52)
Separation. The necessity, the possibility and the security of being separated from the world. The people of God must live a Christian life separated from the spirit of the world.
Great Sermon! Great debate. Rev. Angus Stewart demonstrated over and over that the Reformed faith is thoroughly biblical and unfortunately the Arminian did not address the overwhelming mountain of scripture that Rev. Angus presented. As the other commentator mentioned, the moderator was decidely biased toward Arminianism to the point of saying "God Bless You" each time Rev. Ramsey spoke.
Sovereignty of God. Sovereignty of God highly exalted. God is in control even when the forces of Satan attack the Church. God's testimony will be fulfilled even in the face of satanic opposition. The doctrine of the sovereignty of God is the sanity of our minds.
Fine Job Standing for Truth There's nothing like an unbiased "moderator," eh, pastor? [sigh]
This was a two-on-one "debate" and I appreciated that your answer, your recourse, was always the Word of God.
I am so sick of the uninformed argument which says, "If men make choices then Calvinism can't be true," or, "Since I was seeking God, Total Depravity must be false."
I got the feeling that your "official" opponent (not the pseudo-moderator) figured out fairly quickly that he was in over his head and tried not to say very much once that realization hit him.
Pick on someone your own size next time, pastor. (Kidding.)
Praise God for Truth! Great sermon on an important topic. Pastors, especially those who insist on teaching 'common grace', need a healthy exposure to this kind of faithful preaching! What a blessing!
Gospel message of salvation This sermon goes to the heart of Christ's work of redemption. I'm grateful for this message that conveys God's saving grace as the pardon for all our sins. Even though this sermon was preached nearly 50 years ago, the message continues to be a blessing today.
Great Sermon! What a wondeful sermon! It is so wonderful to hear a Man of God who has dug in an old field and brings forth such wonderful, ripe fruit for our time! This sermon was truly a blessing to me.
A Blessed Sermon Rev. Kleyn points out how important family devotion is. But more importantly the scriptural proof of having them at meal time. Thank you Rev. Kleyn for pointing out this wondeful truth. I definitely recommend everyone to listen to these sermons by Rev. Kleyn.
Vital Message in Our Day! Today, the churches are abandonning the truth; many no longer believe that truth exists; many think the doctrine is boring, divisive, unimportant. This sermon explains the TRUTH about man's depravity and God's grace and is a call to stand fast in the truth and seek out a church and remain a member of a church where the truth is taught without compromise
Great Sermon! Beautiful sermon dealing with one important aspect of Calvary. Why is was dark for 3 hours when Christ underwent the wrath of God. "No human eye could see; no human witness could testify, no human pen could record" what went on when God caused darkness to descend upon the cross. All humanity stopped what they were doing as God focused attention on what He was doing on Calvary. Thank God we will never know that darkness for in heaven there is no darkness.
Great Sermon! It is a real pity that there are not more sermons by this preacher on sermon audio. Listen to this sermon. Prof. Engelsma explains Christ's agony in the Garden of Gethsemane in such a way that the child of God will be deeply humbled and God is glorified. He treats the subject with passion and reverence as we tread on holy ground. As Prof. Engelsma rightly says, "Let every doctor be still in explaining this bloody sweat; let no psychologist open his mouth to try to explain that. Only theology explains this wonder of the bloody sweat of Jesus in Gethsemane." Christ is a perfect Saviour who saves us without our help or co-operation.
Great Sermon! Very good sermon. It was especially good since the preacher is a student in the seminary. The subject was a controversial one and the delivery was very clear. It makes you tremble before God to hear it; and also rejoice for His great mercy
