Do we know what spirit we have – the spirit of the world, or the Sprit of God, the Holy Spirit?
We are reminded that one of the reasons that the Holy spirit was given was, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
This sermon lets us see the things that are not given by God, and how the ‘spirit of the world' causes many to react against God, denying His law, working against Christians and the interests of the Kingdom of Heaven.
The spirit of the world shapes the thinking of those who want to argue against God and the Bible. God, most assuredly, has not given us the spirit of the world. It is true to say that the world, the flesh and the devil work against God, and as Christians we should contend with it.
What should our reaction be? Do not love the world, for as we have seen it is opposed to God and His truth. Therefore, be watchful and vigilant.
What have we received? The answer is of course the Holy Spirit. - If we are Christians He indwells us - He reveals the things freely given of God - He will reveal the glory of the Saviour - He reveals the Father to us - He enables our thinking to change
What can we say He has given us? - Justification, because of Christ we are forgiven, and our sins pardoned - We are adopted into the family of God, we belong to Him - We have new life, having been changed we will grow to be more Christlike
