A biblical overview from the Scriptures provides details of Christ as the Mediator of the New Covenant and its provisions. Included in this provision is redemption and is consistent with the Old Testament requirements of the Levitical system. The Levitical system while being insufficient to fully accomplish all that was necessary for sinful man to have access to God, is revealed to have served as a type of the reality of what Jesus Christ had to accomplish as Mediator. Under the Old Testament system access to God was very limited and the sacrifices offered were unable to cleanse the heart nor conscience where spiritual cleansing is most needed. What becomes clear is the consistent basis of salvation by God of sinful human beings before the institution of the Levitical system, while it was in effect, and now during the Church age has always been by faith in what God has said. The content and object of that faith in what God said progressed and expanded as He gave His revelation of the Scriptures as complete the Word of God as given to our day.
