The contrast is made by an elaboration on the superiority of Jesus Christ as His ministry as High Priest. The Old Testament system prefigured what was required for access to God by sinful human beings. Access required a high priest who would and could offer an acceptable sacrifice. In great contrast, the high priestly ministry of Jesus Christ is superior because of Who He is, what He was offering, and where He made the sacrificial offering. His ministry took place in the very presence of God in the glory of heaven in contrast to the previous which was on earth in a tabernacle constructed by human beings. Also the sacrifice of Himself made by Christ as High Priest, is superior because of what it was able to accomplish - spiritually cleanse the heart and conscience before God.
