The rich gave out of their surplus, but the poor widow gave all she had, and therefore, she gave more than they did. She gave 100 percent of her income. They probably gave less than one percent of theirs. She gave sacrificially and in a self-denying way. They gave from what would not hurt them to lose. She gave in great faith that God would provide for her. They gave with little faith or none at all. How much money do you need in your bank account in order for God to provide for you? How much does God need you to have, before He kicks in with His co-pay? How much does your church need in its account? What are you saving the money for? A rainy day? A possible calamity? The widow could have argued the same way, but she didn't. She gave it all away, and she was commended. What about us?
