Jesus commanded that we not store up treasures on earth, but somehow we have managed a work-around to His command and have justified all manner of savings and investments. Jesus equates storing up treasures in heaven with giving away our treasures on earth. He says we cannot served two masters: God and mammon. He didn't say that we should not (of course, we shouldn't). He was giving an indicative statement, not an imperative. We cannot. It is impossible to have two masters. We will love one and hate the other. Do you hate wealth? Do you hate the idea of being wealthy? If not, you cannot be a lover of God. You love one and hate the other.
Starting in v. 25, Jesus shows that those who love and serve money, and who store up treasures on earth, and the very ones who worry about basic provision. Though they serve the god money, money doesn't give them peace of mind as promised. Jesus then gives five arguments or reasons why believers should not be worrying about provisions.
