The trajectory of the first two chapters of Hebrews: the writer establishes the authority of Christ over angels in His role as Son of God. That's chapter 1. But here, in chapter 2, the writer takes it a step farther and brings it home to his audience by narrating the truth that Christ is greater than angels not merely as Son of God, but also as Son of Man — with the further implication that angels are subject to man. "Everything under his feet" applies not just to the natural world described in Ps. 8, but also to the supernatural beings we know as angels. How? Not just by creation, for by creation we are a little lower than the angels. We will rule and judge angels because Jesus is one of us, not one of them, and He purchased rule by His death. The death of Christ places you in a position superior to that of angels. Put another way, the glory and honor of the sons of Adam comes to pass only through the death and glorification of the Son of Man.
