Denying the bodily resurrection of the believer is a denial of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the Gospel. Paul has given thorough argumentation concerning these issues and in doing so, has revealed new details about the resurrection and transformation of the believer.
God had revealed through the prophet Isaiah (25:8) that He intended for His children, distinctively for both Israel and the Church, to have victory over sin and death. He would undo the effects of death so that even those who have already died will have those effects and impact reversed. Knowing that, and living after the victory of Christ, Paul declares praise that death and sin have been defeated.
Death has lost its power and its devastating sting (consequences) have been overcome. The believer has the sting of sin's penalty paid and the power of sin broken.
The Law gave power to sin as it stirred up the desire of man to rebel and disobey, and in doing so revealed the sinful condition of the human nature. Christ perfectly obeyed and fulfilled the Law.
Knowing sin and death are defeated is then to shape the believer's life as thought, word and deed are freed from sins power - to the extent the believer chooses not to sin. A choice the unbeliever does not have. With that freedom the believer now is exhorted to labor for the Lord with steadfastness and uncompromising commitment to Him.
