Theme: Live what you believe now by being ready for the coming Kingdom. In vv. 31-32, Jesus warns about the present "kingdom." People are either building their own little kingdom now or looking for the kingdom on earth. We need to set our affections on things above. In vv. 33-36, Jesus warns about the present "life." We must lose our life to find it. In application, we need to value our life in Christ. We have communion with God, have no fear of condemnation, are loved by God, have freedom in Christ, and have a living hope. Jesus also emphasizes individual accountability. We need to be ready for the coming of Christ by living in a godly way and running the race with endurance.
