By faith in Christ, the children of God have been declared holy as concerns their position before God who is holy. Those who have been declared holy must then pursue holiness in their practice of everyday life. This is commonly referred to as progressive sanctification. In this sanctification the believer's character and conduct becomes more and more like Christ's. This likeness is to be increasing and ongoing throughout the believer's life, in all areas of life.
The world has turned to psychology and worldly counsel having no real answers or hope for changing character. The believer deals with sin in a much different way as part of their pursuit of holiness. While the grace of God is great and abundant, sin must, and can be, dealt with immediately. Sin no longer rules the life of the believer who has been delivered from its power and dominion. It is the power of God that now enables the believer to turn from sin and pursue the life and lifestyle that is holy and pleasing to God.
