By faith in Christ, the believer is justified before God being declared righteous and absolved of all guilt. This salvation from the penalty of sin includes deliverance from the power of sin.
The world sees sin as a malfunction rather than a powerful influence toward evil and wickedness. Consequently none of the counseling, treatments, or programs designed by man has any potential to break this power over a life. When the Church tries to mix in the ways of the world in dealing with sin with the God’s means of salvation it dilutes its effectiveness and power to change a life.
Only by the power of God working through His gospel is anyone freed from the control and dominance sin has on a life. God's plan of salvation is complete, killing the old man, the old body of sin, and bringing to life a new man who has freedom from sin. Sin and death were dealt with and defeated by Christ's death on the cross. Believers are indentified with this victory of Christ and set free from the control sin had over their lives by faith alone, in the person and work of Christ alone.
