By Adam's one act of sin, sin and death were imputed to all mankind since he acted as our representative. By Christ's one act of obedience in dying on the cross, salvation and life were provided for all who will believe in Him.
The corruption that came upon Adam's nature as a result of his sin has been passed on to all people as inherited sin. As a result, all people, from birth, are born with this condition of a sinful nature. This condition means the whole being of man is corrupt including the heart, mind, will, and thoughts.
The third aspect of sin is the individual deeds of sin all people do. These deeds are a manifestation of the inherited sin nature. Every individual is personally accountable before God for each of these acts.
The consequences of these aspects of sin include spiritual death, the condition we are all born in; physical death as the effects of sin ravage the physical body; and eternal death as the just punishment for all sin.
Jesus Christ's death on the cross made provision and payment for all three aspects of sin. As a result, God offers the free gift of eternal life and righteousness to all who will place their faith in Christ alone.
