Unbelief and its inevitable disobedience will turn a sweet promise and simple journey into years of sour decisions, scorched dreams, and sad disappointments.
Disobedience will stall you... it will turn a brief and beautiful journey into a burden, filled with years of broken promises, bad choices, and bitterness that you can't shake. Unbelief will leave you stranded in a wasteland... until you can't see past the disappointments of your misery. Seeing things your way will keep you trapped in futility until all your days are consumed with the dryness of your wilderness and they bury you in the sands of your sorrow.
There's a word for us in Deuteronomy... Moses is proclaiming and preparing a group of people to take hold and possess the promise of God before they see it with their own eyes. He's reminding the generation that's entering into the goodness and glory of the Lord's faithfulness to not treat His promises like their fathers did. They had been at Horeb long enough... those who caused them a thirty-eight-year delay have all died. And in eleven days they'll be at the crossroads of their own decisions... will they trust and take ownership of what God has promised before they ever see it, or will they also stall out and put their misery upon the next generation, as their parents and grandparents did to them?
What's the word? Will we take ownership of His promises • His priorities • His purpose • His passion • His power today or will we wallow in "wilderness misery" misguiding those we should be leading into His rest?
It's a great book and it still speaks today. What was only 20 hours away by train, 12 hours by car, and 11 days by foot took 38 years. Thin
