Theme: God sovereignly calls people to His service, transforms them, and blesses them with special favor. In v. 1a, we read of how God calls believers to serve Him. In application, we need to remember our calling. In v. 1b, God calls believers to be peculiar, and we need to realize the blessing of who we are in Christ. In v. 2 we see that God grants believers special favor; we should embrace the joyful assurance of God's love. Paul introduces this letter as divinely given by God. God has called Paul, as He has called His people to serve Him. This is no accident or coincidence. It is God's will. And God desires that His people live in the assurance of His favor - of His grace and peace today.
