Theme: Because of the resurrection, it is our mission to confidently and completely share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ to all people. In vv. 47-48, we see the disciples' mission, to preach repentance for the forgiveness of sins in His name to all nations. In application, we need to give the fullness of the gospel in its entirety and also recognize the extravagance of God's grace in providing salvation for all nations. In vv. 44-46, Jesus gives the basis of the mission. In application, we need to keep Christ as the main purpose and be humbled by God's sovereign grace, as we realize that salvation is the work and gift of God. In v. 49, we see the power of the mission. Jesus doesn't send the disciples out in their own strength but in the power of the Holy Spirit. We also need to live in the power of the Spirit. In conclusion, we see that the disciples were given a mission to share what they had not only experienced but also had seen in the Scriptures. They had experienced the power of the resurrection of Christ. And in experiencing that, they would be sent to proclaim this message around the world by the power of the Holy Spirit. May God give us grace to become imitators of the disciples, to share the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit.
