The blessing promised to Abraham in God's covenant with him provided salvation for all peoples, both Abraham's physical descendents who would become the Jewish nation and Gentiles. The physical descendents of Abraham who place their faith in Jesus Christ also become the spiritual descendents of Abraham as do Gentiles who likewise place their faith in Christ.
What was a mystery concerning the salvation of Gentiles through the same Jewish Messiah as the Jews had not been previously been made known in the Old Testament. God, although not yet having revealed the details of His plan of salvation for Gentiles, had known the plan before the foundation of the world.
Details of the mystery being revealed include the partial hardening of the Jews and how previous revelation fits together with the new revelation without changing the previous. The Old Testament had many details, but not enough to fit together a complete overall picture.
As further details were revealed, the coming judgment for Jews and Gentiles became more understandable. Presently Israel as a nation, while under God's is experiencing a partial hardening until God completes His plan of salvation focused on Gentiles. Once complete He will resume His plan with Israel.
