What outwardly appears to be weakness in the apostle Paul, as he was being compared to the false teachers, had a purpose in the plan of God. The spiritual purpose for his physical affliction served to keep him humble and having the right perspective on what was real success in his ministry. God's power working through Paul was most effective and perfected through and because of his physical weakness because he was all the more dependent upon God for his strength. The strength God supplies by His limitless grace is much more sustaining and empowering than any human means. God's grace supplied Paul, and all believers who live dependently, sustenance for every physical and spiritual need to do the will of God and do the work divinely assigned. Trials and weaknesses can be the greatest opportunity to be a vessel more fully filled with God's grace and more fully experience God's power at work. In the so doing the believer matures and the experiencing of contentment that settles the soul and guards the heart.
