Andrew Gray, an extraordinarily gifted Scottish Puritan pastor, had a three-year ministry at the Outer High Church in Glasgow. Though short, it proved eminently successful, and his written works (which were transcripts of his sermons, taken down in shorthand by his wife) went through at least a dozen printings in the years after his death. He is well-known for powerfully addressing the conscience, and his unusually deep grasp of theology. His style of preaching was dynamic, yet clothed in plain words, and his disposition was one of gentleness, being guided by a love for the souls of his fellow-man, and a zeal to see them come home to salvation in Christ. "I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to he content." Philippians 4:11
