We are looking specifically at verses 22 and 23 of this blessed Parable. And we have seen that the things mentioned in these verses represent the blessings of salvation which are bestowed by the father on his wayward son on the basis of another Son, the Son of the greatest Father, the Son of God. It was because God's Son was not only not wayward, but walked the path of righteousness in a perfect way, that this wayward son could find all the blessings of salvation coming to him, even though he was not worthy of it. The same is true of you and me.
What does it mean that the father instructed his servants to put a ring on his hand? I believe that it means that God the Father would have ministers and all those wise and mature Christians who are interested in helping new Christians to find assurance.
We want to explain the meaning of the blessings which have been given to them. Put a Ring on his finger means that he was restored as the father's son once again, with all the privileges of his being his son. For all who are Christians, this means that you are sealed by the Holy Spirit and adopted into the family of God.
