The return to earth of Jesus Christ in judgment is a scene described as the harvest of the wicked. Those who have continued unrepentant in their rebellion against God will receive their just punishment. Christ will carry out this judgment as the sovereign ruler who will act quickly and decisively. There will be no deliberation and no negotiation. Christ is pictured as being given the message from God the Father, by an angel, that the “harvest” is ready, the time for judgment has come. This moment in time is being kept unrevealed by the Father until then.
As prophesied, times on earth will not get better as corruption continues until God determines it to be “ripe.” Putting an end to this time of unrepentant sin, rebellion and corruption is presented as unfolding with a series of events. These involve Christ and a number of angels with various powers and responsibilities', carrying out perfect judgment as God's wrath is poured out on sin.
The details of the literal, physical destruction of Christ's enemies that will take place during the final conflict at Armageddon being previewed is to be an encouragement to the believers living at the time to persevere to the end.
