Obedience to God is not optional. It is not enough to believe the right things. If ever there was a person who had a right to exert his self-will it was Jesus. He was, is and always will be God Almighty. When He took upon himself the form of a man He became perfectly obedient to the will of the father even though in His person He was in every respect equal to the father. The phrase "obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross" (Philippians 2:8) meant that there were no limits on His obedience.
Self-will and disobedience is the work of the devil and self-justification is the lying and deceptive language of the devil. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. Therefore he came to deliver us himself will and self-justification which is really self deception.
To put on the Lord Jesus Christ is to put on humility, truth and obedience. To the extent that we do this he will accomplish his purpose through us. He is not looking for great ability but totally surrendered availability. What about you? Are you willing to truly put on the obedience of Christ?
