The world would see this woman as a failure. She had been through five failed marriages and had just given up on any hope of true intimacy in this life. She had tried to replace the need for intimacy with God with people and that always fails. She was lost and knew it. In verse 15 this woman asks Jesus for the living water that had spoken of. The rest of this passage describes his pouring out of that living water to bring eternal life and healing first to this woman and then to many in her community. Jesus himself was a picture of the rivers of living water flowing from a life filled with the Holy Spirit. We are the body of Christ and if we will follow Him the world will see the forgiving love of Jesus in us and be drawn to Him.
