What was the cause of what we know as the Protestant Reformation? At its most fundamental root it was that the professing church had replaced spiritual life with rituals. The teaching of the word of God had been replaced by religious traditions. This was also true in Jesus day. The leadership in Israel at that time had reduced everything to the tradition of the elders. It was understood that the highest merit a rabbi could attain was faithfulness to the traditions. We are called not to live by past church practice or even the anointing of the past but to continually live lives that are expressions of heart worship in spirit and truth.
