Until the day we are born from above through the power of the Holy Spirit we try to satisfy that thirst with everything this life has to offer. The things of this world cannot really satisfy that thirst now and certainly not for eternity. Jesus came to offer us the living water of the life of God so that we would never thirst. That living water comes through believing in receiving him and becomes in us a life giving flow to bring hope and salvation to those who are without God and without hope in this world.
