Prayer For the church Continue to pray for our local churches without pastors and few committed workers. Please pray for the on going weekly activities.
For Local Area Aylesbury (Limes Avenue) is the church on our Prayer Diary for the coming week. The church correspondent writes: 'Give thanks to God for conversions and baptisms, for a new pastor and renewed enthusiasm to serve him and reach the lost.'
For the Wider Area The Grace World View - Madagascar Madagascar is a large island in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa. It is one of the largest islands in the world. It is a beautiful tropical area with many unique plant and animal species. The population of Madagascar is nearly 19 million people. The population has been growing rapidly in recent years. Nearly 99 percent of the people are natives to Madagascar. Madagascar's economy is based on subsistence agriculture. Overpopulation, government mismanagement, and lack of infrastructure have severely inhibited economic development. Malnutrition and poor health care are widespread. Madagascar gained independence from France in 1960. It suffered through 20 years of Marxist governments, but it is now a republic with open elections. There is now freedom of religion. The practice of traditional African religions such as Spiritism and Voodooism is still widespread in Madagascar. Nearly half of the people practice them exclusively. Many more mix them with Christianity. Much of the country is familiar with Christianity. The Roman Catholic Church is the largest Christian group with approximately 20% of the population. Evangelicals account for nearly 9%. Still, the forces of evil have not been truly challenged. Pray that Christians would have the courage to stand against the heathen practices of their society. The few Bible schools in Madagascar tend to be liberal and have promoted a mixture of Christianity with heathen practices. Pray for the provision of schools dedicated to clearly teaching the sufficiency of Christ alone. Due to pressures on the government from other religious groups, it is difficult for evangelical missionaries to obtain visas. Pray for more harvesters for this field and pray for those who currently labour there. Travel conditions are difficult and conditions are primitive in some parts of the island. Many of these areas are in need of an evangelical witness.
Tensions ignite alarming violence against Christians in Iraq Iraq -- Open Doors workers in Iraq say the combination of Ramadan and statements from Pope Benedict have ignited an explosive atmosphere. Several Christians have been murdered, while other believers have been abused and kidnapped, and churches have been fired upon and bombed. Aside from tribal violence, the trouble appears to be directed specifically toward Christians. Pray for strength for the believers and their children, and pray for the church leaders that they will be able to guide with wisdom.
Thought for the week: βBehold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?β Jeremiah 33:27
